Default What accessories are easy enough to install for a beginner?

Yesterday I visited TRDsparks.com and compared the accessories prices with those on the scion website. On ALL items, I would be able to save up to 50% or more. I find that amazing. I want to know what accessories would be easy enough for me to install myself as a beginner and with the help of some colleges. I don't have experience, but if you give me directions to follow, I will usually be able to do it.

I'll list these items and you guys tell me if I would be able to install it myself:

1. Ground Effects Kit
2. OEM Fog Lights
3. TYC Rear Tail Lights
4. LED Illumination Interior
5. Underbody Kits
6. Sports Pedals by OBX
7. Shift *** by OBX
8. Door Sills, B Piller Appliques, Rear Bumper Protector
9. Auto Dimming Mirror
10. Sport Sterring Wheel
11. TRD Sport Muffler
12. TRD Lowering Springs
13. Injen CAI kit

I'm thinking I will have to get the Ground Effects, Fog Lights, LED Illumination, Sport Muffler, and Lowering Springs done at the dealership. Am I right?

With everything that you have listed there, it can all be pretty much installed by you. The underbody kit might be the toughest one though, oh and maybe the steering wheel. Also maybe the springs.

Before I order from TRDsparks.com, all parts come with easy to understand directions, right? Do I need a lift to install the muffler and springs?

Also, does the LED Illumination, Fog Lights, and Underbody kits connect to the Engine Battery? And how hard is it to connect the switches into the interior of the car? Anyone got pictures of the switches?

nah tong, we can do that here, a lift makes it easier, but not completely neccesary - as for your other question, yes, engine battery, and switches usually go in 'stock' locations, depending on if its a trd part or not

All of those can be pretty much installed by you. I just installed some springs in my driveway and then went to a tire shop for an alignment. I did it all with hand tools, and any questions I had was answered by someone who has a ton of knowledge about the car. He sod me a bunch of parts and has heped me out alot. When you do the steering wheel, just make sure the negative is disconnected from the battery.

This is the easiest car I have ever worked on, just take your time and ask questions if you aren't sure.

good luck

all parts come with instructions, yes... most are written for the "mod for dummies" crowd.. so you should have no problem understanding them...

though do realize that required tools and some practical common sense are expected from you... and the time necessary to install

from that list.. listing from easiest first for the installs (in my opinion)
1. shift ****
2. sports pedals
3. door sills, b-pillar, rear bumper (that takes time to put on right..) (b-pillar and rear bumper... if you mess up... you're done... pretty much.)
4. OEM fog lights
5. TYC Taillights (need to remove rear bumper)
6. TRD muffler (got a lift? tools? easy as cake.. if not.. jack may be sufficient, but it'll take more effort)
7. Injen CAI (you gotta wiggle that 2nd pipe in patiently..)
8. Steering wheel... (you need special tools though..)
9. LED illumination (gotta drill for the factory ones)
10. Underbody lighting (got lift? yup.. another easy install with one... if not... it'll take some time)
11. Ground effects.... (you gotta drill, dremel stuff...)
12. Springs... (spring compressor needed...)
13. auto dimming mirror (special tools... electrical wiring stuff, rewiring... tools... i can do it with enough time... but i'm thinking you might get frustrated..) (hope you don't have srs side airbags either...)

which accessories is worth getting it done at the dealership for the benefit of the warranty? I would say the performance accessories would be best done at the dealership right? I'm planning on getting the TRD Sport Muffler and the Lowering Springs at purchase from the dealership.

According to the Magnusen act? (Darren, correct me here) its in the tech.

any part installed can only 'void' the warranty, if it is the main culprit in creating the fault for which the warranty is being redeemd.

so you could go aftermarket springs, and they cant get you stuck for a CEL light

I would say Door Sills is the easiest thing since I think it snaps in and out, not sure bc I really didn't see the xB's sills yet.

hrm i did the TRD exhaust in 10 minutes with a lift... just take off the hangers then the bolts, then you put the TRD on on and rebolt and rehang everything and youre done!

The exhaust is really easy to install you can install the TRD muffler without lifting the car. Took me less than 10 minutes. I bought my car with nothing besides the auto-dimming mirrors(too hard for me) and the rest of the stuff I just bought from mcgeorgeparts or scionpartspeople and installed myself. Saved a lot of money that way.

if you find yourself without instructions due to ordering things, i can pull up anything you need from our information system.

most of those items should be rather easy. but, like i said b/4 we can help walk you through.

Hey there Mickael. I came by the other day to see the accessories but your showroom model didn't have much of the accessories that I was looking for. I think it only had Leather seating and Pedestal Spoiler. Can't remember clearly. How much do you guys charge for installing accessories at your dealership? I would really like to see how the interior lighting looks like. I've only seen pictures and not really in person. I would like to see most of the accessories in person.

we don't really install a bunch of stuff on cars b/4 people buy them. that way people don't "NEED" to buy anything they don't want. The best way to see stuff like that is to go to a meet and check out the cars. You should come out to Folsom Lake Scion on MArch 11th at 6PM. people will be there showing off light kits and things. just a thought.
