Default car communities

short story of how great car communities all over look out for one another.

I purchased some bumpers from a small shop in San Diego (via ebay/paypal) back in late January for our Jeep Wrangler, which have never shown up ($509.83 basically written off). Monday I got overly ____ed off and started a day long internet search for the owner (jason) and anything related to him I could find. Here is a just a sample of the extent I went that day.

1. Complete internet search on his name and variations of it along with a search on his business name.

2. Anywho.com phone number search and called every single person in the Southern California region that had his last name to see if I could find a relative.

3. Joined 5 other forums that the owner had posted on and then posted messages on every post he had telling him I wanted my bumpers or my money back.

Basically, I turned into a stalker for an afternoon.

At one point I found a website related to rock crawling/4x4'ing and saw a post from a guy who did a run with Jason last year which listed his phone number. So I call this guy and he gives me a link to a yahoo group site that was pretty active with posts and a good group of people. He tells me to post my dilemma on that site and I'd be surprised at the results I got.

He wasn't kidding. I received 18 individual pm's from different folks telling me that the shop that I bought my bumpers from is closed, that Jason lives in Tijuana and his roommate is ***** from this shop (with an email), that they will be seeing him on "X" date and will ask him about my bumpers and get back to me, and the best message yet; a location and phone number of where Jason was working at now.

So yesterday I call this number to see if Jason is actually working there and sure enough he was. I leave a message because the owner was kinda ____ed that Jason was receiving angry calls on his first day there ( ).

About 15 minutes after I left the message Jason calls back, kind of confused and surprised as to how/why I was calling. Long call made short, he said I'd have a shipping confirmations by today or Thursday.

I hope deep down inside he realizes that if I can track him down in less than 12 hours that there really is no hiding. I also hope he gives the fact that I called him on his first day of a new job some serious thought. Because if I don't get my money back or the bumpers I ordered, I will call this new job every 30 minutes and ask for him until they fire him. Then I'll wait a week, track him down again at his new job and do it again until they get tired of it and fire him. He will think $500.00 dollars is small potatoes by the time I get tired of doing this to him. Heck, I've got a lot of time on my hands (and no job)... bring it...

I guess this wasn't such a short post, but I just wanted to point out how great car communities are and how we look out for each other. I mean, this group down in San Diego didn't know me from "shine-ola", saw that I was getting the short end of a $500 dollar shaft and gave this guy up like a dirty pair of underwear (bad visual, but a point none the less).

side note: I've done all the paypal/ebay stuff pertaining to not getting my stuff, so that's already in the system and in the works in case this guy blows me off again.

Todd, very impressive.

This makes me think about people I know who post inappropriate pictures and text about themselves, pictures of them drunk when underage. They say oh who cares. WRONG. It will find you, it will bite you in the ___. I have personally been "Googled" several times for work and I am somewhat easy to find online, I find it amazing how easy it can be to find someone who doesn't want to be found.

Needless to say it's REALLY nice that the people off the off road community stepped up for a current stranger that just stumbled onto their forum, that is what I truly love about car communities, at the end of the day, it's family.

And about the $500 dollars, I lost a few hundred bucks to a sideways seller a few years back, like I told him it's probably going to be the most expensive $500 dollars of your life so enjoy it. I am sure by now it has cost him tenfolds of that for all the talking I did about him and all the sales he lost. Oh the joys.

I hope you get your bumpers, if not, write a book about it.
