Comcast's slug like speed
I am just curious if anyone in the greater Seattle area has noticed a huge drop in speed in the evenings over the past week? I am currently only getting on average 500-510kbps. It seems as though Comcast's routers are (from my watching pingplotter) dropping 40%-80% of the packets in the evening. If you are intrested in checking your speed try speedtest.net.
My latest test gave me 406/355 which is pretty sad considering the advertised speed is 4000/384

Are you on the 8mb package or standard? And also if you don't mind me asking where you are located. I am trying to figure out if its just me or if its just the area of Seattle I am in. I am up near Northgate Mall.

<< and now the fault with comcast is realized...... every1 feeds off the same pipe you do... not a dedicated line like dsl!!!!.... lol
sorry work for qwest... try to carry the flag.... even if they are looking to let 8 people go....

I'm a Comcast tech and our routers don't lose packets as often as your modem or cabeling does. check your router's homepage @ 192.168.100.1 and tell me what the SNR level is and what the Transmit power is.

Bah, I've used plenty of DSL in fact I recently moved off of Speakeasy. For someone who doesn't already have a land line it is too expensive. I don't feel like paying $100 for someone to come out and run copper everytime I move :D
Besides... dsl lines arent a direct line from the fiber backbone to my apartment if that was true I never would have left Speakeasy!

Sharing the same pipe is funny. So if I'm at the end of line does that mean my cable TV is slower than a mile down the road or my picture is worse because everybody is already watching the good TV.

Matt- I assume you meant off my modem and not my router.
Downstream Interleave Depth : 32
Downstream Receive Power Level : 2.9 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 37.1 dB
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 49.8 dBmV
I am still watching 30-50% packet loss across level3.net to google.com. Also I believe this might only be in Seattle (see:http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...5754~mode=flat). Any ideas?

you are all having way too much fun with speedtest.net
Matt - no splitters Everyone I know that is a 10-15min drive from me is having horrible speeds like this too. I guess I will just have to call Comcast in the morning and have someone come out and take a look.
