Default Did my first BJ today

HA! i knew that headline would catch your attention...
by "BJ" i of course mean "brake job"...Tyler (optional) was nice enough to let me use his garage to do the work, it was really easy except the driver side disc was rusted to the hub, after some beating on it with a rubber mallet we (i mean tyler) got it off, YES CJ i did /MOST/ of the work (earlier in the week CJ said "You mean your actually going to do the work your self?"), but not all, i was too weak to get some of the bolts loosened and tightened, but everything else was alll me...

will post pics later once tyler sends them to me...

Super big thanks to Tyler for lending me his garage for a nice dry work environment, as well as his strength to remove some things.

Also a thank you to Steve for helping tighten things down.

~Rant~
a note to Autozone and O'riley parts....eff you and your $55 deposit for a $8 tool (caliper press) I just bought it out right once i found out how much you were going to charge me to borrow it. (i know i would have gotten the money back, and would have been happy to pay $20 but not $55)
/Rant

Also thanks to Larry for doing my brakes las time and letting me see what was up, and thanks to Brian for answering some questions about the disc removal...

NP Josh, still missing some tools that I need, like a breaker bar and a torque wrench, but good thing Allen cut those blocks last time haha, we needed 'em.

How many miles you get outta your last ones Josh? I bought my B with 32K and they did the brakes at the dealer first, i've got 70K and they still stop fine and there is no noise. Is 40K alot on our brakes?

Depends on how you drive, but so long as you don't notice grinding or noise or anything abnormal, then you're probably still good, but if you've really got 40k on a set, I'd start planning for a replacement soon, no manner of driving lets them last usually *that* long.

Most is freeway miles from when i lived in fife. This is the longest i've ever had a car (almost 3 years), never had a car long enough to have to do brakes. I'll probably do them soon anyway.

Yeah...how many miles do you have and you've had to change them twice? You live on a hill or something?

I think there is a difference too between the wear on brakes between a manual and auto as well 'cause i don't use my brakes a lot since i use my transmission more

if you engine break correctly it shouldn't wear you clutch out any more than normal.

alright, so my brakes...i changed the pads last year at about 25k, i did ALOT of driving in the first winter i got it and last winter since i was the only one who had a car that could drive in it, so i was doing alot of riding of the brakes, thats why i ended up changing the first ones so soon.....the reason i changed these ones so soon and they would have been fine, was because i didnt have the money to get my discs turned or replaced last time, so the wear was uneven....BUT that is only what i thought, after further inspection today it was not infact the discs that had caused the pads to wear out and start making a grinding noise or squeek, as a matter of fact there is actually still a little over half life left on the pads, but somehow the back pad on the passenger side got chipped, and being that they were semi metalic they would make a grinding noise every time a little piece would chip off....but if figured well i already changed the drivers side and im not about to have un-even wear on these pads / discs so i will keep going....per Larry's suggestion, i got some nice nickle-zinc plated discs and ceramic pads, he quoted me 75k+ wear on his pads he has on his tC and they have little to no wear, so it sounded like a good idea, was cheap online too, ebay from breakoverstock, for "autospecialty" brand pads and discs only $80 shipped for both discs and 4 pads
