Default Here goes nothing...

It's a long one... have some spare time before you get into this...

So some of you may have caught that Jessi let me post under her SN a couple days ago to talk about the recent Alderwood meet and plans for '06... Both personal and involving Scikotics.

I've decided that probably the easiest thing to do is just continue to post in here but in a very limited capacity. I'll be doing my very best to stay away from any posts that are controversial or in which it's easy for those in the middle of it to get very... "opinionated."

In exchange, I would like to ask that although certain mods from this region (PNW) have told me that "Once you're in mod crosshairs, that never goes away..." that it maybe COULD go away and that would be my Christmas present... or at the very least a granted xmas wish... There have been problems in the past that have been caused by me running my mouth. There have also been problems in the past that have been started because someone "KNOWS" what I "REALLY MEANT" when I said something. I'm not saying anyone is more to blame than anyone else and I do consider myself to be a cause of my fair share in the past.

I just ask that the hyperventilation, and the "I know what he really meant when he said..." comes to a stop. This board, and the posts just within this region can't be successful and draw more people into both the Scion AND the SL community when we can't stop squabbling and accusing and "muck-raking" against each other. And there's been several instances in which several of us could be considered guilty of this.

I won't go back and look at the replies from my Farewell post, but from what I've heard, they really just WERE NOT NICE... Things like this help no one, accomplish nothing and couldn't have possibly done more than get a cheap thrill because no mod or anyone else in a higher position came down on it. Then what? Later on you look through old posts and realize just how you came across... And that never feels good...

The power of the internet is an odd one. Everything at your fingertips, the ability to communicate with anyone ALMOST instantaneously, yet at no point can you tell inflection, tone or what may/may not be joking, sarcastic, rude, attacking, "giving someone ____," etc... We need to realize in this forum, and perhaps other forums could benefit as well, from knowing that only the author of any given post knows EXACTLY what s/he hoped to really and truly "SAY" in that post. And we need to leave it to the mods to sort out anything that does get escalated. No more firing back and forth and seeing how rude or hurtful anyone can be toward anyone else before someone gets involved, no more making seperate posts that then go on to blast the person about another thread, none of that... There's a warn button for a reason.

I have edited the portion I put in here under the council of Jon/FrankenScion

I'm really asking that everyone just chill and mellow a little bit. Among other things, it's the holiday season (or you have a nice Sunday coming up if you don't do the holiday thing) and the bitterness, animosity and "what can I say before I get in trouble" needs to be something that's left in the past and used as a resource for how NOT to be in the future.

Over the time I've been away from the board (about a month) I've had time to think, time to reflect, time to learn and time to grow. I hope others have as well, and I hope that the future, starting with 2006, can be a time when we can be more united, more cooperative and just flat out NICER to each other... Everyone; TO EVERYONE!

To keep in the tradition of the holiday...
God bless us, everyone. - Tiny Tim / A Christmas Carol

It's good to be back all, and whether the mods would like to leave this thread open or not... I think it's just something that a lot of people should read, and if you have, I thank you for that.

Have a great holiday season, a wonderful end to your 2005 and I wish you all NOTHING but the best for 2006!

You know I have never noticed any problems with mods being unfair, anybody getting on anybodys back and no squabeling, bitterness, or animosity that would ruin SL or the scion community for anybody unless it was where you where concerned, sure I can understand sarcasm and tone or intent dont always come across over the internet and I know (or at least I hope) you never had any intentions of upsetting anybody, you just want to be involved, which is AWESOME. I PERSONALY feel that this post is spending more time attacking how our regional forums are ran and how everyone isn't nice. Good your back, you may not believe me but I am glad. Just please don't spend so much of a post announcing you coming back attacking how stuff is ran, it's frustrating. Too much finger pointing which only ever leads to name calling and throwing sticks.

'Afternoon, Brad.

I'll just comment on one tiny part of your post, and let the rest just be read by one-and-all.

...I would like to ask that although certain mods from this region (PNW) have told me that "Once you're in mod crosshairs, that never goes away..." that it maybe COULD go away...
Since I'm probably at least one of the Mods who said something very like that, let me add that one of the big reasons it doesn't go away is that we maintain a detailed database of incidents and warnings. The reason for that database is at least twofold:

(1) There are a number of Mods and administrators, and the one who saw an earlier infraction may not be the same one who has to respond to a current one. In order to determine if this is a repeat offense, a record is needed.

(2) With the turnover of Mods, often times the original Mod is not even available to consult, so details of any problems have to be maintained and be searchable by current Mods and Admins.

I'll toss in a third reason, too. Sometimes a person who has been warned will take the matter to the Admins - sort of like taking a case to the supreme court - to 'appeal' the warning. The Admin who gets something like that dropped in their lap needs to be able to find the recorded background for the warning in order to respond appropriately.

For these and other reasons, we record not only the warnings, but what lead up to the warnings and any discussions about what actions should be taken.

As you can see, Brad, there are strong reasons why it's a lot like getting a tattoo...

Most folks 'get it' on the first warning. Some it may take two. If a person gets a third warning, there is a strong feeling that they just won't or can't learn - they are untrainable. To keep from spending too much time re-visiting the same problems, those folks are simply banned.

A dozen Mods taking care of a million-plus post site with over 30,000 members can't afford the time to repeatedly correct poor behavior from the same members. They learn or we cut our loses. Brutal but necessary.

(Some very misguided souls don't even get one warning, they just get booted out the same door they just walked in. I've done that a few times myself, when, for example, a new person comes in and starts posting **** or profanity.)

Anyway, "Once you're in mod crosshairs, that never goes away..." is sadly a truism. It is necessary.

So! Now that we have that out of the way, welcome back from your walkabout, and Merry Christmas. I hope you and yours have a great new year.

Peace.

Serriously I was trying to be nice, if you want to go back to being rude to each other we can do that too. Of course you jump right to the one thing I said voicing my opinion, but wait are you the only person entitled to one of those? I was letting you know how it looked to me. God forbid you notice the part where I said I was actually glad to have you back.

No, I noticed both parts... I quoted the part I chose to reply too... A *sigh* in reply to "welcome" would look odd, yes?

But one is left to wonder how heartfelt it is when there's several sentences of "you're the cause of all of it" AND THEN a "welcome back"

If we took a poll RIGHT NOW, I have no doubt others would wonder if it's meant or just "going through the motions" given all but one partial sentence in that post...

And that's how I responded...

Your angry post just now does very little to contribute to this thread or this regional forum.

<< grabs big eraser and wipes slate clean starting now...

Glad to have you back on the boards... it makes spying on the "other camp" much easier just joking.....

as you may have read in the Scikotics forum..... on behalf of SE we would like to coordinate some kind of friendly club competition in 2006.... few shows or putt-putt, bowling whatever.. heck even a fund raising event... who can raise the most $$ for whatever charity... many possiblities... and SE looks forward to try and work something out.

on a personal level... you and i already talked about whatever issues we may have had long ago and i presumed/assumed all was good....
ok cept for maybe that whole greeting at alderwood last time.. "hi am brad my XXXX are freazing and i'm goin home..." had me a little worried....

welcome back and happy holidays

Im glad you feel that way, really. AND it's good to know that you know exactly what I ment with all of that, really, how is it that you got into my head? I'm sure it's a trick my boyfriend could really use. I meant what I said, you contribute alot, believe me or not frankly I don't care. I was voicing my opinion which I am able to do just as you are, if you took offense to it then you took it the wrong way. You bring up controversial topics from time to time and THATS what I was touching on. It was not a personal attack to how you behave.

Nah... we had been there for a while and my XXXX really WAS frozen... So I came over to say Hi first.

And all is good between us... Never really recall it NOT being good between us...

I popped a couple responses to that thread in the Scikotics forum. Go check 'em out.

And spy away dude... My involvement makes it easier for ME TOO

Fair enough, then let's both agree to move on and to occasionally disagree
