what distro? on what kind of comp?

 

knoppix 5.3 on an older averatec laptop.....damn thing has a crappy broadcom wifi adapter so most distros wont work, i have tried fedora 9 and ubuntu

you can use a wrapper around the windows drivers to get them working in most *nix, have you been googling around for some help on that specific model?

 

yea there is some stuff out there for it, the thing i love about knoppix is it has yet to fail me on any machine, lol yea i was thinking about using the ndiswrapper, there is a b43 driver out there for linux i have it, but the problem is it causes the install to crash on most distros, and live cd /dvd doesnt even work....i had the knoppix installed earlier, but i thought i would try fedora when i got home and as i suspected it failed, i might use debian if knoppix doesnt work like i want it to, since its based on debian.....not sure if it would make much diff

 

ubuntu is based on debian too, and if it failed, any debian based distro would..

 

thats the weird thing, cause i had knoppix installed earlier before i tried to install fedora.......although from what i was reading the ubuntu gutsy gibbon release worked but the new hardy heron doesnt, someone reported that they installed gutsy then used the advanced install for hardy and upgraded and it worked.....i dunno how much effort i want to dump into it though....

Have you ever taken a look at Kubuntu? It's a KDE-based ubuntu distro... actually pretty slick. Plus, it works well with ndiswrapper.
