LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Police are asking for the public's help in locating the vehicle of a suspect in a hit and run crash. 

Police spokesman Dave Guttu said a woman was crossing at a crosswalk in the 7400 block of Lakewood Drive when she was hit by a 2006 silver Scion around 5:15 p.m. Friday. 

Witnesses believe the driver ran a red light and caused the crash. The driver fled the scene.

The 39-year-old woman suffered serious internal injuries and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma. The woman, whose name has not been released, may have a ruptured spleen, Guttu said. 

Police have detained a suspect whom they found soaking wet and walking in the 7900 block of "A" Street. Police believe the woman may have abandoned the vehicle somewhere between the scene of the accident and where she was found walking. 

Police are now looking for a 2-door 2006 silver Scion with Washington license plate 218VIJ. Police believe the car has a cracked windshield and a front-end damage. 

Anyone with information on the car's whereabouts is urged to call police at (253) 798-4721.

I hope I don't get stopped because I drive a Silver tC. Mine is parked at home too and different plate. I hope this person turns themselves in. It's the right thing to do. I hope that lady gonna make it through.

I will keep my eye out and I hope who ever did this turns themself in or someone knows who owns that car 'cause that is just not right to hit a person and then take off.

Doubtful that the car made it to Illinois but I'm sure the police appreciate your help regardless

Thats messed up. Im sure they will find the person being they have a plate number and full description. I just hope that women pulls through. But i will be on the lookout up here.

i have lived there before and i do agree wit benilda certain parts are bad but the rest is just fine.....

The part of Lakewood we did live in was bad, there was cops speeding by ever night. And once or back yard made it on cops tv show. I am really glad we moved but the is a few nice areas in Lakewood.
