Default Mt. Rainer Cruise August 28th

EDIT: We've decided on August 28th. Any of you good with meet point times? Time to do this? I was thinking late morning/early afternoon. Here is the link to the meeup page with signup: http://www.meetup.com/NWC-Yaris/

Well us Yaris guys got to talking after the Mt. St. Helens cruise about starting our own annual event. We came up with Mt. Rainer as kind of a central meeting point that would be a sweet place to do a cruise similar to the St. Helens event. Were thinking a weekend in late August, with an option to camp as some have expressed interest in camping. This is also being discussed on nwtuner.com, microimageonline.com and yarisworld.com.

Thanks for stickying this! Ok, were trying to decide the weekend and started voting. Dunno if a mod can put a poll on here, or if you guys want to vote on the yarisworld thread. So far we have a few votes, with August 28/29 winning by 1 vote.

Yeah the 28th seems to work best for the main gig. Well, lets make it officially the 28th! Anyone know the area well enough to plan a route to a good observatory, and a good place for a base camp/bbq spot? I've only been there once about 5 years ago, and I've forgot where I camped, and which observatory I went to but there was PLENTY of parking and a nice hill for a photoshoot.

Ah ha, found it! The place I went to was called Sunrise, and is the highest point you can drive too at 6,400 feet. The White River Campground has a picnic area, camping (of course, it's a campground) and is 12 miles away. Maybe not the LONGEST cruise lol, but still should be a beautiful drive, provide some amazing views (the weather is prime this time of year), and good camping for those who are interested and still provide us a place to chow down, potluck style.

What do you guys think? Us yaris guys usually leave all the planning to you very well organized scion folks and just tag along, lol so I'm kinda new at planning an event.

Oh, here is the link to Sunrise

Camping is optional. A couple members will be driving rather far and expressed interest in camping. I haven't been camping yet this year (stupid work) and my girlfriend has never been to Mt. Rainer so were planning on camping.

Guess I should start a food/item list:

1. Astroman -hotdogs n buns

Just to make sure everybody knows... there is a park fee so make sure you bring cash for that. I want to say it's something like $7 to get in... But don't quote me on that. As for the 28th, I'm gonna take it off tonight... I want in!!!!!!!!

I would roll with ya, but I found out on Monday that I have to do a convoy escort detail for the Portland to Coast walking relay from Friday through Saturday. My wife is walking in it, but she is trying to get out of it. If we end up not going maybe I can talk her into letting me go.

Yeah two events back to back like that would be quite a bit. We'll make sure to take lots of pics.

OHANAPECOSH works for a meet place before we all head up. What time should that be?

Update: For my food contribution I'll be bringing hotdogs, chili, cheese fritters and maybe rice krispie treats.
