Yeah, we've manually pulled hundreds of spam/****/trojan/virus posts over the past month. Most of 'em are on for such a short time no one see's 'em, but a few sneak by for a bit longer. The biggest problem is there is NO automatic spotting or removing of them - it's all done by hand.

Having these posts appear and having to handle them is a daily occurrence, and just part of what mods do.

Thanks for the warns, Doug, they really do help us spot them earlier than we might otherwise.

These latest ones appear to be fairly sophisticated bots that pop in, create an ID and post a string of posts in random forums, and are difficult to spot because the subject lines aren't necessarily obvious.

Once we get hold of ONE of those posts, we try to quickly ban the account, then one-by-one work out way through the posts, deleting them.

Getting a warning from a member helps a lot in us finding that first post so we can work on them.

Last night it looks like we got spammed with about 30 different posts. Some nights are better than others.

Squalllheart, our newest SuperMod nailed most of 'em.

I could send you a couple hundred, Steve, they're stacking up in the Mod Cafeteria. Want some?

Whoops! Wait a sec... Yup, there's a bunch over there in the corner in the SuperMod Lounge, too. *sigh*

Tell ya what, Steve, I'm not gonna weed through 'em to see what's there - be happy to ship you a random sampling of 'em, though. (Be careful clicking, many of them lead to rigged sites with virii/trojans/man-in-the-middle ploys.)

Actually, that's from reports of some folks who HAVE clicked on 'em, Jenna.

I did get suckered by one that sounded like it was posted by a normal member and allegedly lead to something on their own website (not **** - I think it was something innocuous like pics of their vacation, or something - don't remember for sure).

In any case, the link immediately forwarded to Google, but had a man-in-the-middle feature where it remained in line watching everything going by, including Google ID and password. Needless to say, I changed my Google password immediately...

Some of these are really sneaky.

it's no human being that's doing them...

fast and sophicated.... and very much.. annoying bots that have learned to get around everything we do to stop it from happening in the first place..

no longer posting new threads alot as guests.... but "registering" on the forums, having an ID and dumping posts in a bunch of threads, and maybe start abit of new ones...

*sigh*...
