OUCH!
If you have ever wondered how safe your Scion is, I am walking proof.
60 mph head on crash. xB vs Mazda pickup. I am battered and bruised and hurting like hell, but I walked away.

I was driving on I5 at about 8:30 on Saturday night. Was almost at my exit (41st and Broadway in Everett) so I was in the far right lane. About 5 car lengths in front of me in the very far left lane was a red 87 Mazda pickup. He started to spin, hit the guard rail right in front of me with the front driver's side of his truck. I started to move to the left to miss him, but he bounced off the guard rail, so I hit him full blast with the front of my car. I hit the passenger side of his truck, so he was facing the guard rail still when I hit him. I am SO SO incredibly lucky though, because after I hit him, I ended up in the middle lane with my drivers door facing oncoming trafiic. If somebody had hit me, I would have been toast.
A very nice stranger in a Golf TDI stopped in my lane and turned his flashers on so people would see us. Within about five minutes there was an ambulance, a fire truck, an Everett cop and three WSP troopers.
All in all, I am so lucky. The man has insurance, he wasnt hurt, there was nobody else in his car. My airbag depolyed, my front end crumpled completely so the only things that hurt me were the seat belt and airbag. I have two black eyes, some serious whiplash, bad airbag burn on my chest, a BLACK bruise the size of a large grapefruit on my right breast (they think from the airbag) and what will be a nasty deep bruise on my left shoulder from the seatbelt. That one is a VERY deep bruise, and is just now getting to the surface. It could have been so much worse...
I know people over the years have bagged on our cars about safety and such, and I just want all my friends here to know that the car did everything PERFECTLY, and saved me from being very seriously injured!

It was 100% his fault. He was issued a ticket while we were still there. So, my insurance will be working with his to get everything taken care of. There will be some doctor bills, both for the hospital and for the stuff I will need to do now that we know what I injured. It's really hard that first night cause there is so much adrenaline...
Wow!! Well first off glad you are ok! Its great that everything worked the way it was designed too. It sucks ya got beat up bad but hey its better than the alternative. Glad that the guy got ticketed and you will be taken care of via his insurance. Sad to see such a beautiful car go bye bye.
Keep us posted on how your doing! Hopefully no long term affects!

Thank goodness you're ok Kelly.. That is scary and I know how you feel 'cause I drove home all the way from Anacortes to Auburn sat. night so I was in the heavy rain for 2.5 hours driving watching me and others hydro plane from all the crappy roads in this state that fill up with water.
Thank goodness your safe & that things weren't worse than that..

HOLY COW!!!!! Dang! I can't belive that all you got were a few bruises from that! Looks like it didn't even pop the windshield either!!!! Glad to hear you are ok though! Thoughts on a new car at this time or too soon? And yes I will say it since I know others are thinking it...man you know what wrecking yard it is going to? I want those monitors and head unit
poor B
Kelly, Shirley and I are very glad you were not seriously injured. Sorry about the car, but it can be replaced, you can't. If you need anything, plz let us know, we will be thinking of you.
A friend of mine got rearended on his 2009 Harley at 70 mph a month ago. He lost alot of skin, broke a couple of fingers, his wrist on the other hand, and ground his knee down to the bone, but he is alive and walking.

Glad to hear you are in as good a shape as you are, Kelly. Your little box gave it's all to protect you.
Those bruises and strains are going to hurt for quite a while, and if they try to get you into any sort of physical rehab, TAKE IT and really work it - it helps - I know.
Please let us know how you are doing!
