PNW Scion MeetUp pages have been *RESCUED*
I received this e-mail from Meetup.com:
I don't know where that leaves us, but we apparently have a limited time to figure out what we plan to do since the original organizer did not feel the need to get a successor.
If anyone has any good ideas, post 'em up here.
If no one cares, we will lose the meetup notices, site, calanders, etc.
We have just over two weeks.
Think fast.

It's a real & rewarding responsibility, and Meetup will help

As Organizer, you'll get special access to tools specifically
designed for managing and growing a local OFFLINE community
group. Thousands of people take great pride in being a Meetup
Group Organizer because they're helping others connect and
create community.
While Organizers are responsible for paying a monthly Meetup

this often breaks down to a few dollars per member.
Plus there's a 30-day money back guarantee. Step up today and
if you are not satisfied with the Meetup service, we'll give
you a full refund.

We hope you'll keep Pacific Northwest Scion Events going for
all the current and future Meetup members out there.
Best regards,

I see that not only was it abandoned, but all future events on the calander are being shown as "cancelled."

Right now the PNW Scion group at MeetUp has 249 members and has tracked 306 events since May of 2006.
(No, I do not know the cost.)

OK, Found the costs...
1. Does Meetup cost any money?
Nope. It's free to create a Meetup account, find Meetup Groups you want to join, and be a Meetup member. Sweet, right?
You only have to purchase a subscription if you wish to start a Meetup Group and be a Meetup Organizer. There are three subscriptions to choose from:
*
$12 a month for 6 months (a single $72 charge)
*
$15 a month for 3 months (a single $45 charge)
*
$19 a month
Each subscription renews automatically and has a 30-day money back guarantee from the date of your initial purchase. Purchasing a subscription entitles you to run up to three Meetup Groups.
Please note: All prices are in USD.

Yes, Mo & I have been paying the cost since starting this meetup in May of 2006. We have been paying anywhere from $144 - 228 per year to keep it going (that is in addition to event location costs, websites, hosting, flyer printing, sticker printing, helping out friends, etc).
We have been spending thousands of dollars amongst everything each year and this has become a very expensive hobby for us. At this time we felt it was best to focus our endeavors and energies on family and raising our little one who is just about to turn one and is now walking.
There was no way to appoint a successor without a charge. At this time I'm at a loss to know of anyone willing to pay this expense. If someone wants to stand up and pay it, then feel free but we can't justify paying for the service any more.
When a new organizer steps up then the events will "reopen". They are just in a "freeze period" until then.

May I remind everyone that it is also possible to have multiple "assistant organizer" types so the workload is shared and each could be responsible for maybe a specific area...
(I'm wondering if someone with a friendly 'connection' in the Scion Corp regional ranks might be able to get Scion Regional to pop for the cost of the MeetUp group - after all we ARE supporting Scion rather directly with this...)

Heheheheheh... We've both been in there doing stuff, David. I just opened up two of the future events (OLY and TAC M&Gs) that I was sure of.
We'll get everything sorted and happy again.
Good choice on new name, too.
(I ain't never been an asst org there before. Looks like a nice easy interface!)
