Hope anyone that goes has a great time!

I;ve done that drive annually for almost my entire life. Up and/or down at LEAST 40 times in my life. For anyone unfamiliar with this route, here's some tips:

1) You'll pass through a couple more elevated/potentially snowy or icy areas. They are: Grants Pass and Ashland/Mt Ashland in OR and Yreka through until Redding and then the "Grapevine" (just south of Bakersfield) until you go back down the mountains in CA.

When I moved to CA in 2001 it was mid/late January and I encountered snow, sleet and a touch of ice. Be sure to drive safe and having chains or all weather tires would be a good thing if you can manage it.

2) Northern CA until roughly Sacramento (halfway down the state) has next to NOTHING, and then after Sacramento it's almost nothing until Bakersfield. There are plenty of fast food places and gas stations and rest areas, but not a lot of civilization or even a lot to look at. You won't be going along the coast. I have coined a term for this stretch of I-5... "The Armpit of America"

3) A good portion of the drive through the "Armpit" is 2 lanes and a straight line. It's NOT HARD to get bored by the lack of change in direction and/or scenery and get tired... BE SURE SOMEONE ELSE IS AWAKE IN THE VEHICLE ESP IF DRIVING AT NIGHT... It really isn;'t all that hard, and esp at night there are semis EVERYWHERE!!

4) That's a pretty tight time sched you have but it can be done. Having someone to trade with so you can KEEP going the whole time will help. Going solo and taking stretch breaks and maybe a nap break or a hotel stop even will seriously put you behind schedule.

Sounds like a good time though once you get there. Although I got tired of the perpetual sunshine, it IS a welcome change from this icy, foggy, rainy, snowy, windy crap we've had this month...

Lots of fun times and safe driving wishes!

Everytime I have made this drive it has been different.

Each time fun, though.

I'm a good navigator! I don't have to stop to pee often.... and I'm a great competitor playing the alphabet game!

Vote for Tim, as your co-pilot!

I Might just do this... it's hard to put 2000 miles on my baby that fast....

But I might make it happen... Hopefully can build some So-Cal relationships and maybe, just maybe, respectfully show a tC from the NW that even compares to what they're doing down there...

I am pretty sure I want to go. I will ask for friday the 20th off from work and I would prefer to co-pilot for you guys. And maybe we can drag that ill-fitting hood back to Nilo, so I tell him how happy I am that it is taken care of. <-- (Sarcasm)

Tim:
I think everyone would be interested in what you have done.

Glen:
What is the LATEST on that hood?

I am 95% sure I am going. Can't wait.

We're working out the details.... Probably going to happen!

I'm just worried about getting through the mountains with my wheels....

Anyone with an xB want some extra weight for traction? Then I can just switch out down there.... LoL
