Default Seattle/Bellevue area: Scion TC TRD Exhaust: Is it worth it?

Hi there,

I am brand new to this site. I have a questions. I was looking at the TRD exhaust for my Scion '05 Tc and dealer quoted $525 installed. I am looking for a exhaust that is relatively quiet with a nice subtle deep tone. I don't want a sound that is just too obvious and cheap sounding. I guess what I wanting something more elegantly sound versus a loud muffler that just sounds annoyingly cheap.

Has anyone installed the TRD or any other muffler that fits this profile. If so, I would love to hear about it or possibly meet (a Scion TC club exist locally?) and hear it for myself before making this investment.

My Scion: '05 TC with McCullough 5000k HID, OBX shift ****, K&N Air Filter, Tinted windows, rear factory lip spoiler
Wife's : '05 Xb: Tinted windows, rear factory spoiler[/b]

When I test drove the tC the first time, it had the TRD exhaust; that alone just about settled my buying decision. It has a very nice crisp yet quiet sound to it but when you got on it, she barked and came to life.. Crusing at 70mph was very nice and it wasn't loud by any means. I say go for it.

I am pimping both and so is Otsego........

Anyways, I have the TRD exhaust and I loved it prior to adding my header and intake.....then it got fairly raspy but I think almostall do. If you are looking for alot of power gains.....look elsehere. It is more for look and sound though I have heard of a few dynos showing a couple of HP gain.....nothing significant though.

Hey there guy (and wife)

I personally don't have it but the feedback I've heard is 50/50... People either love it and swear it's worth the $ or the exact opposite...

As for a Scion tC (exclusive) club, I don't know of any just for the one model. I have a TON of tC's in Scikotics, a couple xBs and a xA.

Like Sheep and Kekai (kkwana) have said... Scikotics and SE both exist out here. Both are national. Both have sponsors and you can always join both. The info pages are well worth the time to read them.

The northend meet is in Lynnwood.

Seattle meet is in Lake City. As we've developed these different meets we've made it sso they don't overlap or interfere with each other.

I work in Redmond on Fri and Sat so if you wanna meet sometime for a few mins, just PM me on here and let me know.

But so as to not hijack this thread...

Some like it. Some don't. I'd recommend going to a couple meets where you know people with the TRD exhaust will be around.

Nope... no thread hijacking here.

No....not at all. I don't see a thread pirate.......

Anyways, where are you located at? I can meet up with you and let your hear what it sounds like with a Header and Intake. The header has broken in so it isn't as raspy anymore but still a little more than i would like. I preferred the deep note that came with just the exhaust.

Default I would love to hear the TRD or other after factory exhausts

Thanks for all the posts. If anyone is willing to meet up somewhere so I can hear the TRD's, most greatly appreciate this. Perhaps at a BEst Buy (bellevue) or Fry's in Renton. Pls let me know.

I'm also interested in getting the TRD exhaust. I'm deciding between the PrecisionMuffler and TRD actually. How does the TRD sound with only an Injen exhaust? I know the TRD doesn't give much hp...but i'm just in it for the sound. I just want a nice deep tone.

I'm gonna throw in my vote for the PrecisionMuffler exhaust. I have it with the Injen CAI and let me tell you, there is NO rasp in the higher RPMs with this exhaust. Going 55+mph, I can hardly tell it's there.

Where can I get a PrecisionMuffler and how much is it compated to TRD's $525 installed tag price and Scion dealers? I am also looking for a subtle noise. I remember the best sound tone I have heard yet to be beaten was my friends Toyota 4wd Celica GT('88 model I think it was) with a HKS muffler. It was sweep. I heard a Scion TC with aftermarket exhaust (don't know which one ) but it was just too loud and sounded cheap.

http://www.precisionmuffler.com/id34.htm -- scroll down a bit until you see it. $275 before shipping. I got mine during a Christmas sale, so I got mine for $255 + $30 shipping.

It's an axleback exhaust. It's not that difficult to install; only reason why I didn't install it myself was because it was really REALLY cold the day I wanted to put it on. haha So I just took it to a local shop and paid a bit to have a guy put it on a lift and bolt it on.

Just need a jack, stands, and a breaker bar/socket set. Two bolts to loosen.

Here's the thread that got me onto this exhaust:

Yeah, the precision one will/should be less than the TRD exhaust. Dealer parts tend to run higher than their aftermarket competition. Just know that if there is an issue with the exhaust later, you can void that part of the warranty if they trace the issue back to the exhaust/install. Persoanlly, I will be changing out my exhaust in the near future anyways since I have better plans so mine might be up for sale in the next few months.

Where can I get the exhaust (Precision muffler and alike) installed if I had it shipped. Would a local muffler/brake shop install these things for us? If so, how much can I expect to pay?

My advice would be to call around to your muffler shops and ask if they can install parts not bought from their shop. Tell them it's not a cat-back exhaust and they might be able to cut you a good deal on getting it installed.

I got PrecisionMuffler exhaust put in at Bucky's (click) in Bremerton. Called them up, asked the guy who was working there for a quote, he said he'd put it on for $45 or so. Normal labor charges for them is a little bit higher, but I was able to talk it down. Took about a half hour because they didn't think it would fit. But I assured them, and it did. Hehe.

Yeah but it is simple to bolt on yourself........Lifts make things easier but this is by no means an impossible mod to do without one.
