If you really want to get one...

Go to Lowes. Look for the Porter Cable 7336SP. It'll be in the sander area. It actually is marketed as a sander, but it doubles as a buffer because it is a random orbit sander. Then you just have to go by some pads. I would suggest the Edge 2000 D/A 6" Pads. They sell a kit that will have almost every pad that you would need.

We should hold a detailing day one day on a weekend. I'd be willing to show what I know, and i'm sure there are a few other people that have some good ideas.

I always found what helped me, even though it seems simple, was to wax in the same direction that I washed. For instance, I wash in horizontal lines, therefore I wax in the same direction...it really seemed to cut down on the swirl marks on black paint especially...

The kit is a good kit. The one I got (7336) and the 7424 are the exact same. It's just one has a different counterweight. It really won't make a difference though. I would seriously suggest getting that other pad kit though. You can get it here.

It's $100. Use the ones that come with the kit for practice. I would suggest practicing on a different car if you have one. The pads that come with the kit are okay. They are velcrow backed, so there is the chance that they will fly off. But for the most part, they stay on.

That kit I posted above in the link, the pads are double sided. And they don't use velcrow. They stay on with this adapter and then they click into place on the adapter. It's really nice.

I am serious, I will look into buying one here when my big money comes (taxes + home refinance). I'm just not enthused to put that much effort into it. But, I want my car to look nice...
