Very cool KK. My first car was a '68 Mustang California Special, wish I still had it.

I'm new to the stereo electronics world and I have one question. If I run a 300w RMS and 1000w peak amp (I'll probably stay in the 300w range) through a 8 gauge power and ground do I need a cap?

Doesn't really answer your Cap question, but I hope this helps you.

Doesn't really help with my cap question but the "Recommended Cable Size by Power and Distance" table is really helpful. Thanks

no you dont need a cap.....i was pushing over 1000w through the old stereo and never had one and lights never dimmed.......but 8gauge power wire is a bit small......step it up to 4 gauge and you will have less long term issues

I guess I'll run with the 8gauge for a month or two and switch over to the 4gauge when I have more free time.

i would guess you could or you can make your own - good ones to use are also the big bolts that hold the seat belt brackets to the frame of the car

just make sure to scrape any paint where the ground wire will go to get the best ground

^ yeah that. i like to rough up both points of contact so that you get the best connection.

i'm running 2200w RMS without a cap (but dont advise it.)

Also get some Dilectric Grease to put on the ground point so it does not corrode and in time lose the good connection.

They bolt through the grill. large washer on backside and a nut hold it on. they are very solid.

Ok so I used the bolt that held the hook thing near the passenger taillight as my ground. I tried the seatbelt bolt but it was too big to go through my ground connector.

keep an eye on that ground point, may need to drill out the mount hole on the ground,I use ground clamps for electrical boxes, can get at Home depot for like $2.they work very well and make a great connection, better than the eyelets most people use that attach to the power wire.
