Default Speeding Ticket

So I got a ticket for going 73 on US 2 on my way to Snohomish from Marysville. Its my first ticket so I have no idea what I'm doing atm. The fine was $144 and I thought about paying it and just forgetting about it but the idea of increased insurance premiums and a point on my driving record kind of hung over me and I decided to mitigate and hopefully just defer the ticket. I mailed the ticket in to the court house on the 15th but they haven't sent me anything about a date. Was I not supposed to mail it in and instead bring it to the court in person? Does anybody know how long this whole process takes?

for one all you had to do was go to the court date on the ticket thats if ,there was a court date you might just have to pay and thats it but usually you goto the date on the ticket for court!

why would you mail it in ? i bet you get it back in the mail . they want that money dude!

hahhaaaa good luck

lesson learned dont speed gas costs to much anyway...........

^^obviously you don't know what you are talking about.

Phobboi-

If you are contesting it you did the right thing. I don't know how backed up the courts are right now, but you might want to call the snohomish county courthouse and find out what is going on.

You might want to slow down, it will save you lots of money.

Nah, I'm not contesting. I realize I was speeding and will pay the fine. Just want to get it deferred so my insurance company doesn't know about it but its taking forever to hear back.

pardon my ignorance, but how do you get a ticket that your not contesting, and are going to PAY, deferred? I don't think there's any such animal.

From 4 points down to 2 points

Deferring a ticket means you pay the ticket (but hopefully reduced) and it won't be put on your record unless you get another ticket within a years time and then you have two marks against you at once.

In most states is the court date written on the ticket? I remember reading on mine that I had to request a court date. Maybe its taking so long because the cop never put in the paper work for it but I don't think I got that lucky.

sounds like youve got it figured out. one of my most recent tickets took 1 month to get the court date after i sent it in, and that court date was 3 months after i got the ticket. haha.

Awsome thanks you guys. Feels alot better knowing it probably didn't get lost in the mail or I did something wrong (other than speeding).
