Tade it in, or sell it myself?
Been looking at buying a new ride, and I've got a 2006 xB that I can either sell or trade in. The xB is in awesome condition, super low miles, Spec Stage 2 clutch, hotchkiss sway bars, a shock tower strut, koni shocks, Borla exhaust, cold air intake, premium wheels, etc.
I am figuring that all that stuff is not worth much to a Lexus dealer. KBB indicates that an '06 low mileage xB (27,000 miles) is worth a little over $9K on a trade-in; no idea what the Lexus dealer would offer.
So I am looking for opinions on whether I should sell it myself, or if I should just make life simple and go the trade in route.
Cheers,
Peckhammer

If it does it might detract....keep in mind that if you trade it in you do not have to pay sales tax on it, vs selling it yourself, so you would need to make enough off of reselling it to compensate for the taxes you would be paying.
i'm in the same boat as you - i have been offered only 7000 for mine from toyota dealership. mine is a '05 with 96k miles, custom paint, turbo and many other items.
Kanchi is right though, that is a plus of just trading it in. Plus won't have to deal with people wanting to schedule to look at it and or test drive it.

If you don't mind the work, i'd pull the wheels and some of them aftermarket parts and put it back to stock. Then if you traded it in, you'd still get just as much, and you could sell the stuff you pulled to make up the difference. Me personally, i'd put it to stock, sell it all, then sell the car myself. I know a toyota dealer would love to have that ride on their lot with that low of mileage.
Thanks for the advice everyone.
Looks like current KBB values, given the low miles, are $9K as a trade in, and $11K as a private sale. As someone above said, the tax advantage could make that $9K pretty much $10K when all is said and done.
I still have all the original stuff (rims, muffler, airbox), so returning the car to stock is fairly easy. And in the case of the muffler, it probably helps to not have that Borla on there (not that you can hear it from inside with all that dyna mat, but it is pretty loud outside the car).
So I guess I'll see what a dealer will offer, and go from there. Again, thanks to everyone for the words of wisdom.
