Default War??

ok so today I was watching the news and it upset me.. Being in the military I ususally let this stuff just go without any concern, but this made me think. Today on the news there was a story about people protesting because the US isnt doing anything about the situation in the Sudan. There is an issue of genocide going on and there have been over 200,000people killed there(non US) .. Personally I dont really care about whats going on but the part that got to me is that people are protesting that we arent doing anything about it as a military.. Why would we do anything about it and we cant even fight the war on terrorism without having protests about us doing that let alone have us the US military go to another region and and "take care" of the situation.. Im not trying to get in to politics or any long drawn out thing about the war but people give me a break. You protest because we are in a war and now your protesting that we arent overthere helping in the sudan. I mean really what do you think will happen when if we went to the sudan?? I hate to say it but you have to "Remove" the people that are causing the genocide and if we do that people will probably protest that.. Sorry about this, I just had to vent.. I really hate tree huggin, birnkenstock wearing, granola eating hippies. there always _____ing about something that us military people are doing..

Hey, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Even you! The people protesting probably have some emotional investment in what is going on, you don't have to agree with them.

But please don't spend time telling us about who you hate. That is not friendly conversation or venting, it is confrontational.

Calm down, relax, take a couple of deep breaths. This discussion has been going on, in one way or another, since well before there was even an English language.

In our system the military doesn't decide who to fight - they have very little input, even. The politicians, as always, are the ones who commit other peoples money and other peoples lives into fighting those they convince us are the enemy.

Let's face it, the vast majority of folks are followers, not leaders, and express 'opinions' that are fed to them. Getting angry at the sheep doesn't accomplish anything - in fact, it distracts from where the real problem is.

ScionLife probably isn't where to discuss any of this, though - things get rather out of hand very quickly. That's why I generally lock down topics focusing on religion or politics (oddly identical to some people).

That doesn't prevent me from tossing in a couple of links as I'm locking the gate, though...
