Who wants to split cost of paint booth time??
Like the subject asks... anybody heard good/bad things about them.. or used them?? they got shop space, to rent to do auto work and even a paintbooth they have to rent out... heated, supply the air compressor... etc.. they rent the booth out in 6hr blocks or 24hr blocks...
i've sent an email to them about how much it costs etc... waiting for reply...
but wanted to know if any1 has used them etc... or may want to go in an split cost on booth time or something
their website is http://www.maxi-space.com/

got a answer back on prices.... 6hr block of time $80, 24hr block $175... plus a $250 damage deposit.. booth is heated with "bake" mode to help speed up drying times....
renters need to provide everything BUT the air compressor , so i/we/us whoever would need to bring hose, spray gun, stands if needed paint etc...
now to plot out the rest of my demise....

My father has a sprayer, but it could be risky painting for the first time.
If at first you dont succeed try try again. Or get a professional to do it.
It may be worth the risk, one never knows we could be naturals.

OK... looking to rent space here sometime durring april... not sure if it'll be weekday or weekend.. starting april 2nd i'll be on the midnight-830a shift at work so my days will be free...
only weekend right now officially i cant do is april 7/8 due to moving that weekend...(i could use a body or 2 to help btw ;) )
anyways.. if any1 has anything needing to paint and want to split cost for booth would be cool.... I know Sean (lava xB) has a few things he wants to paint.. and actually has spray guns to use too... so figure 2 people so far.... you'll need to supply your own paint and other equip (stands, sandpaper, parts etc)
anyways.. should be interesting if not fun...
PM or post up on a day/time if you want to split cost on booth rental

yup yup... figure 24hr rate would be best.. if happen to go over 6hr block.. its another $80... .. 12hrs at $160 may as well spend the extra 15 to have less stress while painting and more time...
anyways.. if ya think your gonna have some painting to get done sooner than later.... let me know.. we'll figure out a time to do it and split the cost.... of booth time

Yah I got a body kit to paint. I would like to fit it up first, hopefully
this weekend. Then I will be open except for the third weekend(22nd).
I would be glad to split costs with you. Do you know where I can order
paint to match my camo box? Are you borrowing guns, or renting them?
Are you getting primer?
Yes I know I am a novice.

I painted my boat two days ago... the only experience I had proir was an old RX-3 I painted for a buddy in high school... I bought a Sharpe Finex HVLP (high volume low pressure)gun...it works soooo much better...you can see by the picture, there is almost no overspray...the mess in the shop was created by the 80+ hours of prep time
When I actually strapped on the resporator, I was about 7hours total spray time... I used a PPG base coat/clear coat system (which is VERY forgiving) and you kinda have to keep painting until you are done... I am pretty sure I ended up with 3 coats of base color and 5 coats of clear. I did this in a regular shop with a fan in the window... There is a bit of dust that landed in the clear but I put enough on to wet sand and polish (cut) out. While painting wasn't cheap... it was a HELL of alot cheaper than the 5-10k people wanted to charge me...and after the prep work, I understand why. The paint booth sounds like a cool deal... it would have saved me the additional 3-4 hours of wet sanding.... 24 hours for sure.....
$109 gun
$100 DA sander
$40 resporator
$150 fiberglass stuff
$60 misc sand paper
$100 primer, activator, thinner, cleaner
$500 3qt PPG Speedway Blue Basecoat/Clear, Activator and reducer
100mph boat that matches my truck....priceless

Lookin good there Steve...... nice color choice.....
Rigley... well online theres Paintscratch.com that can get you matched paint.... seen it mentioned lots online here for getting touchup and repair paint.... it asks for your VIN # too to help get exact match....... not counting primer i think it had me at about 150ish for 1qt color 1 gallon clear coat...... i havent bought yet... but thats what it quoted me.. .i'll be checking out some local shops to see what price's they got...etc...
Sean with the lava box says he has 3 guns to use... primer/base coat, clear and a detail gun... so will see about that..
unless steve would be willing to lend us his new gun
....lol

Any local bodyshop supply store can get you set up...a gallon of clear is ALOT... a qt should be enough...I only sprayed 2qts on the boat (not including reducer and activator) Rigley, your color code is 6M7 (camo), just give that to the paint supply place, they punch it in, mix it for you on the spot.... I would highly recommend going to a shop rather than saving a few pennies online.... they can answer questions for you and set you up with the little things.... I'm sure Sean's guns are nicer than mine and would make the job a bit easier...I would be happy to help any way I can...
Thanks for the info steve. I'm letting Kekai do the leg work, I'm lazy.
Ideally I would not mind painting the lower half of the car for the two tone
look, but that might get costly. The kit I have is just a lip kit and should be
no problem to paint. Matching the original paint as far as shine would be
the key issue.

If it is any help... the spoilers and lip kits offered by Toyota are ordered separately from the vehicle and arrive pre-painted... The shine is the easy part...its getting the base coat on evenly that is a problem.. this is diminished for your project for lack of large surfaces... for the shine...just get enough clear on so you can wet sand and polish until it is smooth...shiny is shiny
it could.... it could look like wavy runny dusty dripping almost color matched painted fiberglass
......
gotta do lots of sanding to make sure things are smooth..... i'm not sure i'm doing my sideskirts cuz they need a bit if fiber glass repair...and i have no clue how to do it..... that and they kinda scare me on how they attach to the car
