Default Whoa! Got my transmission swapped!

Hey all...I've been breaking down like its outta style...or something...
Ha...well, the xB has been down for like...4 months...Airbags first off, got em fixed, started driving it again then a battery problem. It moved on to even better things! Transmission noises! I brought it in to Redmond Transmission (GREAT GUYS!) and they said my gear bearing is going out. Great..they said labor would be ridiculous and there is even a chance that the gears might be messed up because of the bearing play. I stopped driving it. Fortunately I had a second vehicle.

Anyways, got a used transmission for a good deal outta state, got it shipped and I just got the box back this afternoon.

Now, onto the fun stuff...it goes back in...this time to Speedware Motorsports.
Bags are getting taken off and new perches welded back on. K-Sport coils are going on and it gets a nice semi-race alignment. Unfortunately OTG didnt come through and their shims were being made and not going to get done in time..I guess rear camber gets done later on... I pick up new rims here soon...going the cheap and fun way. I have 16x7 Rota Slips on (+40 offset) and Im going to pick up just a pair of 16x8 (+20 offset) for the rears..should look nice! And CHEAP! Woot.

Corner balancing comes next.

Who needs a transmission? $150 and its yours. I even will deliver within a reasonable distance...and will ship upon request (on your bill). Like I said, Gear Bearings are going out with a chance of Gear Issues. Perfect for the do it yourselfer looking to put a quaiffe diff in it and upgrade 5th gear. It is a 5 speed.

Offers? Comments? Please don't move this to the for sale section. Its for locals!

How many miles on your box? Did you see if Scion would cover the transmission?

You got some cool stuff congrats and hope stuff stops breaking!

04 with 55k miles. Checked with scion. Outside of warranty and they kind just brushed me off. I've heard of this happening before on other scions and the whole ordeal with scion is kinda lame.

But the engine and transmission are covered under the powertrain warrantee for 5 years or 60k miles?

Some dealers just don’t want to deal with warrantee repairs and have told people stuff it is not covered. if you go to one that cares they usually take care of the warrantee items. Or call Scion and have them send a rep to look at your car.

I dont think so. I believe it was a 3 year warranty with 36k miles for my 04. Or at least thats what I have been told.

Otherwise I would have brought it in. Oh well.

you should still give scion a call and explain the situation. theres a chance they could reimburse you for some or all of the expense since you were under 60k

Yea I believe these guys are right. 5year power train 3year bumper. Definitely call Scion 1800 #. They handle stuff better than the dealers. Trust me I know. My hydraulic cylinder in the tranny went out at 800 miles, they were screwing with me blaming it on this and that, my driving, etc. I called 1800 # and a few days later brand new cyl.

ha.. well I called em. So, Kirkland told me wrong info. Thats all I can stand on at the moment. They dont think they will reimburse me since it was 3rd party that installed the other transmission. I had it escalated and will attempt some form of reimbursement.

You might be surprised, I had a head gasket go out on a ford windstar i had years ago and found out after getting it fixed someplace else that it was a problem they were having with the head gasket and ford paid me back for the work.

thats also what I have heard with the 04 transmissions. Others have stated here that their gear bearings have gone out under 50k. I told scion about that as well. I should hear from them today.

So, Scion Corp. is giving me the run around.
They claim because I listened to the sales guy about warranty information and I had other means of getting it, its out of their hands. (So double check whatever you hear out of sales people I guess, since they aren't trained for basic warranty info) Now, I have contacted the Service Manager at Kirkland and am waiting for a phone call back...but in the mean time, Corp. is contacting the Regional Rep and they will be contacting Lake City (who I would prefer to deal with) about possibly bringing the transmission into their services and checking it out to ensure that it was bad gear bearings...which that that time, we can then discuss possible reimbursement, not from Scion Corp. but through means through Kirkland or something..

The part during the conversation that ____ed me off, was that they tried to blame me for not going to other means to find warranty information and me believing the sales person at kirkland. WHAT?! The other part was that they deal with customer issues on a individual base and "more than likely" they will not reimburse me because I took it to a 3rd party to get the transmission replaced.

Im contacting the State Attorney General later. In the mean time it will take at least till monday for them to get ahold of the Regional Rep and have them talk to the services manager.

grr..

while i think they should reimburse you, they do have a good point.

a lot of times, no matter what car dealership, the salesmen know less about the car than the buyer. when i check out cars i have to correct the sales guy half the time on the features of the car.

and the warranty info is also in your car manual.

yeah. i know. i didnt even think of looking in the manual.

I just assumed. oops.
They make good points...but I still think its worth pursuing.

Im not expecting anything..but at the same time..I think some form of reimbursement is there..whether the labor or parts...

they should pay for the whole thing, and as for the salesman, he should have asked a tech if he didn't know.
