yeah, I'd say that pretty much all the xB's have or will have rock chips in their windshields eventually, cons of being shaped like a brick. Gravel on the roads from the past winter doesn't help either.

Got 3 and counting on the RS3, waiting for it to crack but CoreyAnn wants it replaced, I say why my theory is it will just end up getting another ding anyway. Too bad we can't just swap windshields for shows!

Surprisingly my first xB didn't have any dings in the windshield but I didn’t drive it on the freeway much so that may be why.

The chip repair places I have been to just fill it in to prevent the chip or ding from cracking and it is annoying cuz you can still see where the chip, ding is. They are only worth it if you want to save some money and not replace the whole windshield. Since I get annoyed by the dings when I drive I’ll just wait for it to crack because I don’t want to pay to just fill in the dings. Some people use clear nail polish over the crack to prevent it from cracking not sure if that works but it is supposed to keep water out when it gets cold out so it won’t freeze and cause the windshield to crack.

Pilkington Solar

This is the glass that has the top tinted band in the glass. Looks nice and the same price and quality as OEM (dot approved). Course it doesn't resist chips/cracks any better either.

could always help those chips turn to cracks.... just take a can of compressed air used for computers.. turn it up side down and spray... it'll freeze...

wait.. was that my outside voice??

I let my daughter borrow my xB once and she got a chip in the windshield first thing down the road. A friend of hers has a rock chip repair business (among other window details) and he came by one afternoon and fixed it on the spot. I can't even tell where it was unless I really really really try. He did a great job I think and it was only $25.

My big problem is giant splatting bugs!!! EEUUUUUUUWWWWWWW! I was driving along thinking it would be cool if someone came up with an film windshield cover of some sort that you can just peel off when it gets too gross with chips and dings and bug splats. I have invested in a scrubber thingy for washing my windshield more regularly.

I know a place in Everett that fixes dings for $25 if you want to save a few bucks next time.. Fixed mine last year, just left a tiny speck after it was filled.

Stay well away from any big trucks on the freeway is my motto. Especially those damn dump trucks. One bump or lane change by them and you can get peppered with who knows what.

I was once in Auto Trim Seattle and another female customer there was demanding to know where people go to get 3M type stuff for their windshield. The staff told her that there isn't any they know of. She got irate and thought they were just hiding info from her because she "swears that truck drivers get that kind of protectant for their windshields so why can't the general public".

This was a year or so ago but this post reminded me of how flippin desperate she was to get protectant for her windshield.

What Mo doesn't know is that there are 5 chips!!! And they have all been sitting there since last August (I got my first one on the way to Exposed).

I know it sounds odd but chips to me feel just as "dirty" as paint dings/chips to me. I so wish that they were gone.

Hmmmm...need to look into practing how to swap glass for shows...if I can perfect installing/removing...hmmm....probably not going to work for me

There are plenty of threads already on ScionLife about this topic. Try using the Search function up above.

But in the meantime...Tomas has gone through three windshields (if I remember correctly) and he found the "best" one in terms of strength and durability (the OEM windshields are a little 'soft').

Tomas...care to elaborate on what the brand was again because I don't have the info on me (its in a box yet to be unpacked ;) )?
