Is it worth the trade???
Went to go walk around a Subaru dealership the other day... Sitting in their lot was a 04 STi w/29,000 miles. They said they would give me $16K for my tC (leather interior, TRD exhaust, lip spoiler, and tinted windows) and sell me the STi for $25 out the door -- clean carfax.
My credit is perfect, and they gave me an APR of 6.49 from BECU. Called my insurance to see how much it would be..and it would only go up $10 more per month than what it cost me to insure my tC.
The STi is a beast! But I also will be sad to see my tC go....
What do you guys think? Good deal???

You know who ever had that car probably beat on it. I know one person who traded in an evo and another who traded in an STI after mods they put on didn’t work out. The WRX STI had a rebuilt motor and only 21k miles on it. Last I checked a new WRX STI goes for 33k and there should be a redesigned one coming out soon. As much as I love the car I would pass on it and buy a new one (if you can). You don’t want to have to deal with repair bills or other peoples problems.
There was a lady on the news a few months back who purchased an EVO for 25k and with 27k miles on it she spent several thousand on repair costs.
On the other hand 16k for your tC as a trade is a great price I could only get about 15k for mine if I had traded it in. and you will not have to pay tax on that 16k if you do swap cars.

That's a tough call. Others are right, you don't know how the previous driver drove that car.. I am sure they beat it to h e double hockey stick. It's a sweet car, but you might as well pay more and get a brand new one so you know that the turbo is good and everything else

we have had a few STI's come through the dealership, and it was a toss up as to how they were treated, best thing is if you are going to give up the tC, don't settle for anything less than new, especially when looking at a sports car that you ahve no idea who had it and how they drove it.
Also new car interest rates are lower than used cars and Subaru has a 1.9% deal going on not sure if it covers the STI as well but worth looking at 1.9 VS 6.49 is a few grand saved in interest payments depending on how much you finance and what kind of term you take. You may also consider leasing to lower your monthly payments
Just because the previous drivers or owners are older does not mean they don’t beat on the car, or they may have some kids, friends, or cousins that beat on in.

Well... If I do decide to get the STi. I'll have a brand new set of Tein S-techs (still in original packaging) and TRD leather shift **** up for sale. I just bought em, and now might not install them if I do get the STi.....sighhhh........what do I do...what do I do???
Never ever ever ever ever
EVER.
buy a used Evo or STi/STi unless you knew on a personal level the person you are buying it from.
No exceptions.
Now, for all I, you, or anyone else knows...the car is pristine except for a few thousand miles. But you need to understand...when this stuff breaks, it gets expensive. And there are so many warranty problems concerning these cars that you may end up getting screwed by the very same dealership that gave you the great deal.
If you're really interested in an STI, I highly suggest waiting a couple of months to pool some money and then go shopping for one. The peace of mind of buying new will far outweigh any kind of instant gratification you'll get from buying this car used.

The interest rate seems a little high...but then again it is for a used car.
I would only get it if you were able to take it to a shop first and do a new buyers inspection on it. It costs about $100 but it'll be totally worth it.
I traded in my xA for an '00 s2000 with ~60K miles. Completely worth it, IMO.

That $100 pay for the mechanic popping the head off the car and examining the internals or pulling open the transmission and looking for damaged gears?
Probably not =x
There are a few posts on the Evo boards about people buying used off-the-lot cars that end up running kind of awkward and when pulled apart by a mechanic, they discover that there are aftermarket camshafts installed that weren't on the invoice.
Best bet would be to check NASIOC and search/ask around there. I don't really know how bad Subaru is with authorizing warranty work. I do know that a while ago there were reports that when you buy an STI you get an SCCA application, but any evidence of participating will get you denied warranty service across the board.
