xD motor in 1st gen xB?
I'm one of those guys who thinks Scion struck a chord with the first gen xB and it's the Scion I plan on buying as soon as I can. There is only problem...ITS SO UNDER POWERED.
I was thinking...and I know nothing about engine swaps so thats why I am posting...is it going to be possible/affordable/practible to swap an xD 1.8 liter into the old xB?
I want some more kick but want to maintain that great gas mileage. I do not like the new xB very much. I think it got the total American makeover. It looks alright and drives just fine but there is just something about that damn box I love.
The 2.4 liter in the new one is great and gives it pep but I think it's too excessive for what I want to do. I just want get 20-30 more horsepower out of the 1st gen xB.
Any suggestions????

well yea. it's got to be pre-owned considering the only new ones remaining are so few and far between and hidden at dealerships across the nation. so i do plan on buying used. but you dont think the engine swap would work jsa3mm?
the money it would cost is very prohibitive. I don't have any power problems with the 1st gen, it's not a race car. I can get up to freeway speed easily enough and keep up with traffic.
If you really need more power, turbo or S/C.

Hey if it makes you feel any better I don't know much about the workings of Scions. I'm just as noob as the next person.
You should come out to our tech/install day this weekend. There you can take a look. I'm also going to be installing a cai on my box at the beginning of next week.

yeah, there are plenty of people that have juiced up the box with f/i, lightened pullies, etc, but mine sure does have enough oomph to get me around.
just stay away from the automatics, and you'll be fine

Anyway what Doug said is basically right, except I haven't don't the crank pulley in fear that it wont be in balance..
But with an intake and exhaust it gives the box a LOT more get up and go. Ask anyone on the mt. st helens run a bit ago that watched how i drove my auto.. it got up and went quite well for the little hamster under the hood..
