Default 1st speeding ticket

I was on my way to work at 4 30 am this morning. I see a car behind me approaching me at a high speed. I ssped up to 95 mph ( give or take a few ) I switch lanes so that car can pass me up. the car got behind me andi look back and I recognized th headlights. I'm hoping he doesn't pull me over. he did. he wrote me up for going 95 (give or take) I didn't know my tags were expired so he wrote me up for that as well. this is my 1st time with a ticket.any one know how much its going to be? I'd rather not fight it. I know i was speeding.I don't want anything on my record. I have court on aug. 6th. what to do?

get your tags updated, and go to court, they'll usually be lenient and just drop it if you have taken care of it.

well, if your state has it, you can go to court and ask for probation before judgement, which means that you will not be charged with speeding IF you go like i think it is two years without getting another speeding ticket. if you complete two years without another speeding ticket, you don't have to pay the fine, and it won't go on your record.

I dont know if California has that, but i received a speeding ticket not to long ago, but i was going much slower than that. i was going about 82mph in a 65mph zone, and my ticket was aroung 300 bucks.

I don't know what you can do about the expired tags other than pay the fine and penalty for late renewal... ummm BTW your plates have the month your renewal is due and the DMV sends out renewal notices three months in advance. It won't show up on your driver record.

As far as the speeding ticket, you can attempt to have it reduced, and since this is your first violation, you should be able to take traffic school.

Make sure you can fight it. Back in October of 06 I got a speeding ticket (radar). I was going 86 in a 65 in NY state.

I got docked 6 points on my license. $300 and $100 per year for 3 years. Bot to mention the Car insurance raise from the points.

I wish I could have gone to court but I was driving cross country to move ot SoCal. The trooper said I could pay online. BS!!!!

i know in VA they charged me 5 bucks for every mile an hour over the speed limit, but i fought all of my tickets (i think like 5 of them) and got them all thrown out, but yea definitely get your plates fixed and they should just drop that, just show them proof that you took care of it when you go in, im not sure how you'd fight the 95 mph ticket though, mine were a bit easier to fight

Radar calibration defenses are getting more difficult to fight thanks to more stringent calibration and record keeping, and exmurderblah was "paced" at the speed he was traveling. If he fights, he's almost guaranteed to pay more in fines and insurance.

yea, thats what i was thinking, you're best bet is to try and talk them into letting you take like a corrective driving course, or whatever the hell its called, and they'll probably throw out the ticket, but 95mph is pretty fast...anyways, good luck

I agree. I was told he had me dead on so there was no fight. I was ____ed though cause he said I could pay online and it almost got my licence suspended cause I did not drive back to NY state to show for court.

Luckily the county clerk was very nice and we worked it all out over the phone.

Let us know if they let you take the class. I was told in So Cal it's only something retired people can take.

Just use your clean driving record. If you have had a clean record for 3 or more years, they will toss and you will have to pay court fees. Thats how it works in RI anyway I dunno about other states.

I've had my license since I was 18. so I've had a clean record for more than 3 years. never been pulled over.

^^ that rule doesnt apply to us here in CA. The ticket will probably be close to $375.00. Then ask to take traffic school so it doesnt go on your driving record. You'll probably have to pay a fee to the court for traffic school (like $20) then you'll have to pay for traffic school from wherever you decide to go (the court will give you a list of places they accept for traffic school). Online traffic school is the easiest, go with that if you can, some counties dont allow it...

you might actually have a hard time trying to fight it, or at least going to traffic school because from my experiences they wont allow you to take it if you were 15mph over the speed limit, and you were WAY above that.

good luck tho, because it is possible that the cop may not show up, but since they are also required to show up just like you, plus they get money for going to court so they have a more likely chance of going.

furthermore, unless the officer wrote the ticket for wreck less driving, you'll be able to go to traffic school. 15 mph over the speed limit is normally considered wreck less driving, but the officer had to write the ticket for that. Doesnt sound like he did...
