Default ATTN: California Underglow Drivers

So, I have had my underglow for about a year now. I use it anytime I am on the roads at night. California does allow underglow on roads under the following conditions:

No Flashing/Fading/Changing Colors
No Red/Blue
You must not be able to see light source
No freeway driving with them on

During the year of nightly use, I have never been pulled over. I have probably counted 10-20 officers/CHPs that were able to see my box, but did not act upon the sight. I keep a steady lime-green on. I always keep this in my car just in case: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc25400.htm

Hope that helps!

I think it's terrible you actually have to keep the paperwork that says it's legal in your car, hahaha.

i thought these were illegal in cali regardless of color. i guess i learn something new everyday. i think you shouldnt drive around with them on because a cop could pull you over for that and hassle you for other things on your car, such as illegal mods. i think it just attracts unwanted attention from cops.

Luckily for myself, I have no other illegal mods.

Yeah if you have that on while driving anywhere that's like hey please pull me over for:
1) your exhaust.
2) your tint.
3) this sticker is so big i can't see ____!
4) just because they can.
5) you were doing 3mph over speed limit.
6) no front plate

...You get the point. I got rid of the CF hood for this reason basically. Cops do triple takes.

1) Street Legal dB level. Have placard to prove it.
2) No tint. All stock.
3) No stickers.
4) Well, that would be easy to fight in court.
5) I never go over speed limits.
6) You got me there, I do not have a front plate.

Glad I don't live in Cali. Been pulled over for speeding, and even with the turbo badge on the rear, graphics, tint, and everything else I've never been asked to pop the hood or get anything fixed. Drax, could you link the MD guidelines, I thought any underglow was illegal.

i don't know where the guidelines are, but a few years ago when a bunch of scion owner's got together for a scenic drive and photo shoot on skyline drive, one of the xB owner's had his car loaded inside and out with underglow and such, and when i asked him about it, he pretty much told me the same thing that OP mentioned. he said he has been pulled over for it, but won it in court, and driving back at night he had them on the whole way.

I just meant in general for anyone rolling with that, not aimed at you. Hahah.
I just listed the common mods (minus the Talladega Nights reference )

Well, I like egging people on and I like to stand out. I love it when I am at a stoplight, and the car next to me jumps off the line blazin. I think it is funny, I am not a racer, I just like to stand out. Remember what Scion says in their commercials? "United by Individuality". Thats what I am all about. Plus, an xB with underglow is such an odd sight. Why would someone put underglow under a box?
