Default Can anyone recommend some Big Bear activities and locations?

My wife and I are heading up to Big Bear in about a week from now. We will be renting a cabin for a few days. I have already made most of the arrangements, but I am a little bit short on ideas for things to do there.

It's important to note that we don't ski and we don't do any kind of watersports or fishing - all things Big Bear is good for, I'm sure. Nonetheless, it seems like a nice place and I am sure we will have a good time just exploring and enjoying the scenery. We usually enjoy heading to the local mountains to hike and just enjoy the tranquility, but Big Bear is somewhere we have never been.

So anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for things to do or places to visit. We will probably do some shopping in the Village, and the local zoo is one place we plan to visit. I also have a couple of nice restaurants on the to-do list. We will hopefully get some hiking done at some point. Aside from that, I am out of ideas. Anyone?

Also, shopping and restaurant recommendations would be helpful too.

Thanks!

hmmm.....
stay away from RV's that can't stay in their lane lol. I got hit
by one of them on friday

Anyway, the zoo is cool, you'll get a laugh out of the "rarest animal kept in captivity". There's always the luge type thing,
I forget what they call it though.

If you can handle hiking, go up castle rock, it's amazing, at
the top you can see the whole lake.

Have fun ^_^ and watch for CHP, just from my house, which
is on the 330 and the 210 (30 minute drive maybe....), I
saw 8 CHP cars/trucks on my way to Big Bear.

Thanks, that Castle Rock hike looks like a good one. I just found some reviews, guides, and pictures. Will definitely check it out.

You can ride the chair lifts at Bear Mountain to the summit (costs a couple of bucks), and they have hiking and biking trails down the mountain. It really is a perfect thing. I mean, all-downhill hiking. It's magnificent.

You can go camping or mountain bike riding. Or maybe hiking? Just make sure you have good tires going back down the rt 18 haha

Yeah I saw what happened to you. Those pictures were hardcore! Thankfully, I just replaced my tires a couple of weeks ago. Also, I will be taking route 38. Not sure if that's better or worse, since I've never taken either route before, but I assume the 38 has much less traffic than the 18.

You have to go up/down the 18 to get to the 330 so you'll be driving past where I crashed.

^ Nah, I'm not going that way. Like I said, I'll be taking the 38 instead, so I won't get to see your crash site. I hear the 38 has much less traffic and is more scenic.

they have pretty nice trails. go to the discovery center on the north side of the lake. you can get alot of info on hikes and things like that. oh, and some trails require going off the road.
