Default Compustar Installation

Has anyone had a compustar alarm installed on a tC here in southern california where they weren't charged $300 or more? I just called the two authorized dealers in Glendale and LA and one was $300 for the alarm/remote start (just installation) and the other was $350.

I don't know why it's so expensive when other alarm+remote start systems can be installed for a lot cheaper. I can get an alarm plus install for that much!

Just trying to see what is out there. I may still end up going to an authorized dealer, but it depends. I wasn't expecting to pay $500 for a year old model alarm and installation.

I'm not in CA, but I do know that the alarm is generally expensive. I had compustar installed on my old car about a year and a half ago and it cost me close to $700 for the alarm and install. The reason it costs so much (at least in my case) is because it takes a while to install the alarm and they are prolly just charging you at the hourly rate.

However, they might be giving you some sort of discount on the hourly rate because you bought the alarm from them. If, for example, you buy a different alarm similar to compustar on ebay or some other place, the installation might run you close to $500 alone.

I am not trying to tell you what alarm to buy, but I did love my compustar. I have recently been looking for an alarm that you can control from your cell phone - I think that would be the hotness. But that's just my opinion. Other alarms may be cheaper - but in all honesty, IMO, you do get what you pay for.

hah... for real. I guess the $300 install isn't so crazy then.

Thanks. I guess I may just go with it then. I figure I'll be happier in the end if I let an authorized dealer do it, so if anything goes wrong, I know someone will take care of it.

Cool, I am glad that you decided to go that route... nothing worse than buying something then getting it insalled cheap only to have it get fried.

Let us know what you think of the alarm when you get it done.
