Yeah, if you want a 2nd key you need to see the dealership to have it programmed to the car. You could try to ebay a whole key, chip/remote and all to save a few bucks but you still need a dealer visit unless you get a hold of the programming steps yourself.
Not sure if it would work, or if you want to do it, but maybe hid your original key inside the column close to ignition? That way you could use a regular cut key (w/o chip) and use that to power the ignition.
If no one knows its hidden there, it should be safe to do so.

lol thats not the smartest thing but its an option thats up in the air. I'll see what happens when i order this key of ebay. What does the dealer charge to program a key. Anyone know?
That wouldnt be that bad.. Well I look into prices for programming this weekend. Then I'll post the place and costs. Someone out there is curious about.,heck might even start something...probably not though,.lol
This site offers a programming guide on the bottom left hand corner.

^^ you can program the keyless fine... but that's not what we're talking about..
(and F* buying instructions.. they're on this forum already.... but still it's not the only thing you need)
programming a new key's immobilizer chip for the ECU to recognize requires a Toyota Techstream
(a special laptop with special software to allow comms to the ECU thru the OBDII port.. they typically cost about $6400 each for a dealership)
after that, yea.. if you bought another key with a new keyless remote.. you can program that yourself.. (fyi, those keys are just expensive, you might as well have the dealership cut you the key and program everything in the first place)

i mean.. buying a key from ebay.. only to spend more money getting it cut, and then spending more money going to the dealership to get the chip programmed..
whereas you can do it all in one place.. you might save a little bit of money doing the other way, sure.. but in my opinion.. it's just not that practical.
the only cheaper way is to have them cut another valet key, with no keyless... but even the chip still needs to be programmed too still.
