Default RIP 97.1 FM Talk

Tis a sad day.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I will miss Corolla in the mornings, FHF mid day, Leykis evenings and Conway Jr. at night.

Post your thoughts if you know what I'm talking about...

Today was the last day

I love Carolla, funnest man ever

And it was really sad when the triplets were on air and frank started to cry, man that sucks for those guys

Worst of all it was replaced by another hip-hop station, we have like 5 of them in LA already

I almost cried, I loved FHF. Leykis sucks - the bastard should've just taken the pay cut so everyone could stay on air.

That would have only prolonged the inevitable. Leykis is an ___, he doesn't care about anybody but himself, but him taking a pay cut wouldn't have solved the problem. They got rid of the entire Saturday line-up of jock's and it still didn't help.

It is a tough time. Nobody is spending money, advertisers cannot afford to run ads on the radio station at the rates they were. Therefore, less income for the radio station. Don't be fooled, radio stations are there to sell advertising, entertaining you is a bi-product of getting you to listen to ads.

When the economy bounces back, everyone will be back. They were all number one in their demo's and markets. Leykis was #1 in like 90 markets. CBS just can't afford to run a full talk-format. Nobody can right now.

But Frank had every right to be ____ed, he's losing his job. We would all try and find someone to blame.

Molly Malone's was pretty fun today though!! Didn't stay long. But Frank was DEstroyed.

There's some speculation that Carolla might show up on SiriusXM. It would be a great place for him. He's friendly with Howard Stern but the terrestrial radio money was too big to pass up. Maybe that will change now

satellite radio is going down the tubes. Neither xm nor sirius have made a dollar of profit since they started up.

They're not going anywhere. Do you worry if the FM station you are listening to is profitable or not? Check Apple's financials before buying something from iTunes? They are now SiriusXM, by the way. They merged last fall and just got more financing.

It would be hard to go back to FM radio after having SatRad

Here's a good way to see what Sirius is offering at any given time. Makes FM look lame:

Sat radio has reported great losses. Talk of a merger/takeover with staelite TV is in the air.
If this happens, Stern may be the first to get cut, because he is the most expensive show.

Stern's the one guy on SatRad that has pulled his own weight and then some. He's not going anywhere, at least not until his contract is up at the end of 2010. He brought over more than enough subscribers to cover his expenses and is the main reason why Sirius, the smaller player, was able to catch up to and takeover XM.

That's like saying InBev is going to take over Anheuser Busch but stop making Bud Light because of the costs to produce it...

Financing has been found, no take over is looming. I'm not buying their stock, just getting their service and it is really good, IMO. Especially given the FM options or compare the 12 bucks a month to what you'd get on iTunes... And if you like Talk Radio, then there's an even better reason for checking it out.

^^That is the one thing looming over me to maybe get sat radio. I love talk radio. I cannot stand terrestrial radio here in So Cal anymore. Indie 103.1 went off-air and now 97.1...

I've found myself getting depressed more and more everytime I get in my car and I tune to 97.1 as a force of habit and I hear some lame @$$ rhianna or britney spears song!!

My lunchtime really sucks now without their show. Guess I'm gonna have to break out the Ipod again. Although the music just doesn't do it after listening to them for over 2 years.
