Default San Diego Roaming [A somewhat SD tour, 56k=no no]

Ok, so here's the story. My girlfriend and I didn't have anything to do one day. I've been telling her that there is a way to drive from Chula Vista (near the U.S.|Mexico border) to the Del Mar/Solana Beach Area (about a 10 min. freeway drive from the northern San Diego county line) without taking the freeway, just surface streets. Here are the photos and rest of the story....

It's about 4:30 PM and I decide to go to the local Toyota|Scion dealership (Toyota of Chula Vista, which is 2 stoplights from my house ) to pick up the new Scion magazine with the ultra JDM airfreshener and see if they have any X-Runners to look at. Well they had both, and some other surprises. Check out who we spotted:

e65notch's xB was there also but forgot to take a pic

We then drive over to the Petsmart down the street to see if they had any bunnies....they didn't. But I saw this brand new RS3 xB

Also while we were waiting at the stoplight to leave I saw a sweet looking Camo Green xB on the cross street (sorry, I don't know your name!)

So we contiues North and I was able to catch a few driving shots

We then hit Harbor Dr. passing the Naval base

the ship yard

and passed under The Coronado Bridge

That lead us into downtown San Diego passing Petco Park

the Convention Center

and then drove around the historic Gas Lamp Quarter

It's now about 5:30 and we decided to hang out at Seaport Village, a mall kinda thing....I don't consider much of a mall but more of a tourist attraction When we pulled up I saw one of my dream cars, a super clean S2 with SSR Professors, too bad it had tan interior :?

So we roamed on foot and spied:
a cat

some ducks sleeping

and some tourists watching more ducks

Not much was going on there so we made our way through more side streets (saving you guys from the boring part) and eventually hit Mission Beach and Belmont Park

It was about 7 when we got there, and most of the shops and rollercoaster were closed So we made our way past Pacific Beach and into La Jolla. We drove past the cliffs and ended up walking around the Children's Pool a.k.a the Sea Wall

and watched the rest of the sunset

...This is the last of the pics since it was too dark and I'm missing my mounting plate for my tripod We did continue all the way up to Solana Beach though, and total trip time was about 4 - 4.5 hours. The trip back on the freeway was about 20 mins.

I hope you enjoyed my little tour of San Diego. And for all those SD residents who would like to replicate the trip feel free to shoot me a message and I'll be more than happy to give you the directions (or major streets) to the best of my nolage

side note: This would make an awesome full day group cruise, although some of the roads are not kind to large rims and dropped cars

I've been on the same road as you did and it was a fun ride, but I was heading from my house towards Coronado and then Imperial Beach.

I hope to catch your Scion someday on the streets. By the way, you are going to the Chula Vista meet right?

sweeeeet. I wonder how long it would take if you just drove that way off the freeway and didn't stop anywhere.
