Default Tinting & Perma Plate Protection

This Sunday I bought my xD (first new car ever, so excited) without tint on the windows because I'm pretty sure I can get it done cheaper by not going through the dealer. So does anyone know of a good place to get my windows tinted thats around Lake Forest? Also do you guys recommend getting a perma plate protection (I think thats what the dealer called it) for a silver car or no? I remember back in the 90s seeing quite a few silver cars looking like crap after a while because it started to fade. Though I'm pretty sure paint has gotten better nowadays, but I'm not so sure.

So the questions:

- Where is a good place around Lake Forest to get my windows tinted and whats the average price for getting this done.
- Is getting a plate protection on the car worth it and what price am I looking at.

No it was an option, a $600 option! If it *is* clear coated then they didn't say anything to me I didn't want to add it because I didn't feel like spending the money when I know i should be able to get it done elsewhere.

I LOVE the xD! Just enough power for me and lots of freakin' room compared to my old car. I can't wait to get my hands on accessories for the xD and start making it a unique xD

[edit] Supposedly it does come with a clear coat, but I'm actually asking about the option they offer you thats called something like Perma Plate Protection.

[edit2] revised the first post. I sound so stupid

If you are planning to keep the car over 5 years, please request a pure metallized film otherwise you'll get a dyed/hybrid film and those will turn purple or turn clear in a few years. If they try to upsell you on the Platinum metal.....IMO...just say no and ask for other options.

Also, make sure you get a copy of the lifetime warranty from the factory not just the tint shop.

If you're willing to go to Santa Ana, I can recommend you a shop I trust. If you're looking for the cheapest place( dyed films and trainees at your service!!!), then this is not the place for you. I'm not saying he's the most expensive, he's just someone I trust who backs his work if there's any problems. I've known him for over 10 years and he has about 20 years experience in the industry. If you want his number, PM me. Otherwise, good luck!

I'm not looking for a cheap job for the tinting. I know that for quality jobs you pay more and I'm not against that one bit. Support the guys who do quality jobs instead of the cheapo's doing crappy jobs.

Does the guy have set prices or does it depend on what you want done?

It's more of a depend on what film you select and how many windows you want done.

Do a google search for perma plate. They have 2 kinds. One is just an applied product, like a protectant, the other is only applies in strategic areas to protect from road debris.

Either way, $600 is way too much. I would say stay away from it, especially coming from the dealer. It's a pack product, a way for them to "pack" the costs of your car and put more money in their pockets.

Here's the website:

Just my opinion.

wow...I agree Chef that does look good. 20% rears and 35% up fronts it looks like. First time I've seen an xD. Let Nilo or Evelyn have it for a month with an unlimited budget and I'd bet you wouldn't recognize it when you get it back. But you'd win a lot of trophies. lol
