Dude, I so understand. I am new too and I use a GPS cause I am clueless here. If you can get onto 10E you are there easy! Just take 10E till you see the "West Covina" signs. It's about 30Miles from Santa Monica I think. But I cant remember the exit.

yeah, my Avic-D2 is a huge help... unfortunately, it doesn't always know where I am... When it works, it really works. when it's F'ed up, it's a useless pretty screen in my console...

 

Is that a problem with the unit, or did you just get a bad one? Cause I was looking at that h/u as an upgrade when I do my entertainment.

 

i'm not sure. when i had it installed, i picked up my car, drove away, and it couldn't find me... so i went back to the shop and had them replace the antenna. it worked fine for a while (it got me from FL to CA without issue) but driving around LA it seems to misplace me from time to time. I don't know if I need another antenna, if it's the whole unit or if it's the nature of GPS to be imperfect... This is my first bout with GPS at all...
I've also yet to find a local socal shop to take it in for trouble shooting, much less the time to take it in...

I had the Magellan and it got me across the country without a Map or at least using a Map out of habit or at the hotel

It only started to get messed up when I got to California!!!! But then in LA it did fine. Now the KNA-G510 and the big screen it's also has it's up and downs but mostly ups! Only thing I hate is the original Voice but you can change to another V2.2 voice. It can take a little time to get the satellites but it's really nice with the DD LCD.

OK, enough of this. Not a GPS thread

PS: MAKE SURE THE ANTENNA IS HOOKED UP TOT HE GPS BOX CORRECTLY AND IT NOT BLOCEKD BY ANYTHING.

I think as long as all the flyers leave (there aren't a bunch on the ground when we leave) it should be fine.
