no intake is carb legal... hmm.. i think all headers aren't carb legal..

most exhausts are legal.. but big flashy ones will still attract cops...

hmm... TRD S/C.. pretty much one of very few power mods that are legal in cali.

It needs to be CARB exempt, I believe. Check for things with CARB certification numbers.

Some headers and intakes are legal for the xA/xB, but there are none for the tC. Check -->HERE<-- for the latest CARB exemptions.

you need a cat... which aftermarket headers don't have..

(i think except one that actually has it... but even then... cops wouldn't probably care if they see it as not stock..)

hmm... the car needs an o2 sensor..... it never not had one and you install it in aftermarket headers..

The XB has many Carb Legal intakes and there is a AEM header that is legal. There is a legal AEM header for the Xa that was under development last year. The tC is a whole different story--No legal Carb intakes or headers available.

that applies only to '05 xB/xA's and below.

for the '06's and above... they added that same charcoal filter that they have in the tCs...
pretty much making no CARB legal intakes for those vehicles too for the same exact reason.

actually AEM makes a cai that is CARB exempt. it has an executive order number on it. look at aempower.com.

how much power it makes is a different story... in fact it probably robs you of power lol

as for headers on a tc, big negative on CARB approval. anything that tampers with emmissions equipment is not california street legal.

there is another way of dealing with this. its not illegal unless u get caught.

if you can get the number.... or get a screenshot of it.... i'd like to see the proof.

from what i saw on the aem website awhile back.... a big fat NO on the 50 state approval mark.

probably why it's a bit difficult to even look up the intake for a scion tC on the website now.. hmm? yea... that's right.

The California Air Resources Board has not issued a CARB EO# for any cold air intake for the tC as of Jan. 3, 2007

buy a vehicle code book, its your best resource in what you can and cannot moddify your car.

even if your parts are carb exempt, i can almost guarantee that the cop will get you for something else.

just mod the way you want it, where it doesnt attract attention. shiny angled exhaust is asking for it. stickers are the same. big push cart wings are the same.

as far as smog, theres always a way, as long as your wallet is open to it.

You can make any car with whatever modifications C.A.R.B. exempt for life in California. No state ref BS when you get pulled over. Do a google search on C.A.R.B. exempt or go to a real tuner board to find out how. It's all legit and you even get a C.A.R.B exempt certificate.

I have a difficult time believing that, do you have a link? Because a Google search turns up nothing.

Well, it's not my job to make a believer out of people. Keep searching or go to a tuner board and search.

Here's how the certificate looks like:

No, but you brought it up, so post a link please. That cert you posted doesn't explain the circumstances behind it. For example: you can CARB exempt a car if it purchased out-of-state without CA emissions equipment.

Now, unless you are referring to converting a car to run on alternative fuel (LNG, LG, etc.), it can be done that way, but will cost you waaaaay more than it worth.
