Default Who wants to sell me a xB – Longo Doesn't!!!

After reading all the praise regarding Longo Scion, I decided to drive over and buy a car from Verone. I wanted to reward Versone for his participation on this site. Plus, free Sirius radio and 9 month subscription...woohoo!

So, I'm down in the LA area this weekend from Vegas and drove 30 miles out of my way to buy a car, and help Verone out as well. Everybody wins...right?

Well, I get to the dealership and Verone isn't there. Bummer, but another very nice guy greets me and and we start to drive out to pick one.

After we start to talk he explains that its “Longo's Policy” that they wont sell cars to out of state buyers? WTF? Then later a manager suggests that if its an “all cash sale” we might be able to do it! Double WTF?

Is this some new weird policy about selling to out of state buyers? Do other dealerships have this asinine policy? Have I just gotten lucky in the past?

In the past few years, I bought 2 Volvo's in San Diego, a Jeep in Oxnard and another Toyota in Arizona....all out of state.

The reason I'm buying is SoCal is because no one has any inventory in my town. They all have “2” models........ they all can “only get them this way” (however the 2 in stock models are built on that day), and can't really be sure when they will be getting the color I want in! If the dealerships in my area did their job, I wouldn't be looking elsewhere.

So, who doesn't have this “policy”?

whoa what a interesting expereince. I just made a deposit for a tC, lucky I am a local. Yeah I feel pretty bad for ya driving from LV and not get a xB. Try Puente Hills, they got some good ratings and it is about 20 to 30 minutes from Longo.

I'm curious as to whether you even talked to a real sales rep. Sounds like some idiot waiting around on the lot trying to steal people's money. I'd highly suggest pm-ing Verone or calling him, that sunds like an awful wierd policy. His SN here is longoscion

I did talk to a "real" sales person....who took me to one of the managers because I wanted proof of this moronic "policy".

I'm not bashing Verone...without his great participation in this forum I would have never even visited Longo. I'm just severly dissapointed because I went there to buy a car, and left scrathing my head

When you go to a dealership and they don't want to sell you a car.. that's just wierd.

Hell where's that one thread where that chick from Canada just picked up her new Scion from the US???

I believe his name was Kim. But to be honest, We only talked for a 5 minuites before I walked. Didnt want to waste their time...or mine. I was there to BUY, not look. Once I confirmed the "policy" with a "manager" I was out the door.

Being you live in LV the sales tax might be lower then CA? If I recall somewhere, they would have to honor your sales tax being your from LV. Meaning, they would lose profits on the sales tax and lose out on the long run should you make a loan on the car?

Just my guess?

I think we have all heard of deals that have fallen apart after the sale. In other words someone's credit falls out after the sale due to what ever reason. The dealer then takes the car back. They may have had some issues where the car was out of state and had a hard time getting back.

If I remember right, Verone and I had this discusion once. Longo being the largest scion delaer in California, does not want to risk losing thier allocation or having it reduced, by selling to an out of state buyer. They try to respect the other dealers territory especially out of state buyers. I know that it is hard to find a scion in vegas, especially a salsa red with a stick.

On any other vehicles other than scions they will sell to an out state buyer. I have taken friends and relatative to long that could not financed here in Vegas to longo and they have driven off in or used vehicle.

Im sorry for your experience here at Longo but can ensure you that Scion's LA region does frown upon dealers selling out of state due to the other dealers not getting the business. Trust me, I would love to sell you, Bill, and others cars but due to LA region's frowning upon us selling out of state, we cannot.

That's pretty wacky IMO. If a customer wants something, they should be accomodated. I understand the respecting other territories businesses and all, but he is not in that territory, he is in yours, maybe cause he heard you guys were the best.
