Sad to see an xA die like that, but she did a good job of protecting her driver. That's some MAJOR damage, but the passenger compartment interior seems to have remained safe.

Glad to hear you ended up in a lot better shape than the car! How much did you get banged up?

Good luck with the new VW. Hope your insurance covers everything.

You are lucky. But dont dwell on it (the accident) learn from it.

I've been to allot of accidents, mostly fatals. Somtimes the damage is less than that.

I'll be honest, I didnt read most of the posts, the first 3 only. I assume you were wearing your belt. If not, please do.
Did the airbags go off?
You should send a than you note or somthing to the passersby that stopped for you.

How did insurance treat you?

Haha, I'll try and answer all the questions.

First, I definitely realize that I'm lucky. Most of the luck is the fact that God was watching me, AND I was wearing a seat belt.

Second, no, the airbags did not deploy. All of the police officers at the scene agreed with my mother and the EMT's that the airbags should have deployed and that I was extremely lucky that I didn't need their use. However, I do have a couple of bangs and bruises on the top of my head, and my neck and ribs are severely bruised. I also received six stitches in my thumb thanks to flying glass.

Third, I really want to send a thank you note to the passerby, but when I got his name, I was completely in shock and don't remember. My mother failed to ask when she got to the scene.

Finally, insurance ended up treating us extremely fair. They totaled the car, and ended up paying us around $14,500. What's really cool, however, is that they included some money for my custom rims (they really shouldn't have).

So you're right, I shouldn't dwell on the fact that I wrecked. I should think about how to learn from the experience. I'm obviously driving much slower and taking everything from a much safer point of view.

So again, I thank you all for the support, and have fun. Never forget that.
