Default Anyone know where to get a cheap headliner?

I managed to screw the pooch trying to re-do mine and I don't think it's salvagable. Nick? Scott? Syldrin?

Bummer! Sorry it went bad.
I was thinking about calling Sew Fine about doing mine and maybe some other stuff. Nick recommended them before.

So you already have the fabric, right? You just need someone to install it for you?

I called Colorado Auto Interiors and they said they would put on your fabric and reinstall it it for $195... Seems a bit high to me.

Sewfine moved to Texas?? Damn, I used to work there. I would not recommend them only because they were the most expensive shop in town. You might try to ask the dealerships who they would recommend - most custom upholstery shops will charge you an arm and a leg. Something like a repair could be handled by a lesser quality shop without a hitch.

I removed the cloth over the weekend and that went well. I gave it a couple of days to let the alcohol evaporate. I used 3M 90 high strength spray this morning. Coated both the headliner and the vinyl - letting it set up a couple of minutes before adhering it. I did it in 4 sections, starting at the back. Everything looked great until I got to the front. Now I'm starting to get bubbles that will not go away - mostly in the front quarter.

It may be salvagable - I don't have enough experience doing this sort of thing. I am going to try and fix it tonight when I get home. I still need to trim it and tack up around the edges a little. It was the bubbles that worry me.

Thanks for all the help. Scott - Car-parts.com does have a few headliners in stock and they are pretty cheap. Dunno about shipping, though. Gman - thanks for checking for me but a new one from the dealer is obviously not an option. Too much $$$. I can get the real carbon fiber one for less.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Scott,

Yeah I got it. Thanks. I'm still gonna try and fix this but I don't think I will be able to make it look perfect. If not, I will be looking at these for a new one.[/quote]

Cool mike I was thinkin bout this and wonder do the bubbles seem like they are filled with air? Or are they just loose spots, and did you use the fabric I think you used? The problem might be voc gasses traped between the two layers if you think that might be the case. You might try to either 1 yet to poke a small needle hole in the fabric or 2 on the back side of the headliner take a soldering iron and poke a hole thru it, right behind the bubble to let the gas escape. If you decide to do the new route I can give you a contact to talk to good luck

Regular vinyl might be too heavy for a headliner and will cause it to bubble and sag., but it sounds like it is salvagable. Even if you have to take all the vinyl off and start over the fiberboard should still be good. Buying a new headliner will get you the fabric and the board...

I'm willing to help out if you want

Wow, asking for a little help is really the best way to kill a thread.

Did you get it fixed? How did it turn out?

I had a place on Broadway do mine and it turned out awesome; however, it probably would be a couple hundred dollars. I also know that when I had mine done they were telling me about the limitations on material due to the wieght of the fabric. I used a really thin suade to do mine.
