Default Discount Tire SHOCK Story

LOL, Ok ok,

So i finally got my winter to summer tire change out's. Took the car to Discount Tire to do a switch and on the last tire BAM!

The Valve stem broke off. So they told me that they didn't have any in stock but a store in Denver did.

But the twist, "And the valve stem with the TPMS, is 200 Bucks"

Me- " Uhhhh, aren't you going to take care of it since you broke it."

Them" Well it could of been broken when you came in"

Me "No, it was fine when i came in, you broke it"

No response but a nod. They are paying for it but now want me to be the delivery boy and go to downtown denver, 1hr from where i live and go pick it up, take it back to the place that broke it to have it installed.

I'm sorry, but i'm the customer not your employee who says ok, i can shell a few hundreds for your own clumsiness . And especially not a delivery boy.

Ry, are you sure yours has the TPMS stems? I was pretty sure that it goes by a circumference sensor, not a stem sensor...
We never had to put any kind of special stems in ours when we replaced them...but maybe they're different after the '05?

Yeah, i actually wish i didn't have these TPMS things, i have had more problems with them than them doing any good.

Discount tire replaced it and told me it take about 20 min for the light to go off. Well it's been over hours and even a manual reset, Now the Low Pressure light is blinking. finally read the fine print in the manual...

Now i got to go to toyota cause they need to plug in the TPMS ID of the new sensor into the ECU so it can recognize it as a sensor. More gas down the drain just going back and forth....

This is turning into a nightmare....... For now on, i'll buy my tires from Discount but let toyota install them.

That is correct. I was under the impression that we had tpms stems and that our 'low tire pressure' gauge was directly linked. The tech. at Stevinson west told me that for the '05's, it is based on a circumference sensor and I guess it is linked to the abs system.

He wasn't sure if it was the '06's or '07's when scion made the switch.

Despite how much it sucks that they asked you to be the delivery boy, be glad that they are taking care of you and not just tell you to 'F**k off' like what happened to me!

yeah, they are hit and miss at times. They balanced my wheels twice before i had the dealer do it right. They also broke two studs of my friends Subaru, After breaking one off, they put the impact gun on another lugnut on the same wheel AND DID IT AGAIN.
