Default This is why you don't drink and drive!!!

Well, Hax has already heard about this, but nobody else probably...so here it goes:

Yesterday, on my way home from work at Flatirons Mall, I had a little first-hand experience with a drunk driver...at 8:30!!! I was following a Land Rover on the mall road, and he was going slow, so I went to pass him on the right so I could get onto the highway. Well, he decided to merge into my lane in the middle of an intersection without signaling while I was right beside him! Because I was paying attention, I quickly reacted and slammed on my brakes and swerved...however, since I was going about 40 and I hit a patch of ice, I saw that I was heading straight for a pile of plowed snow (a.k.a. ice). The Land Rover swerved just enough for me not to bury my car in the snow and I hit the side of the snow pile and ran it over. I was okay though, because I wasn't in a wreck, so I proceeded on.

Once on the highway, I decided to pass this a**hole. Once again, as I was passing him, he attempted to merge on my lane AGAIN without signaling!!! This was about the time I realized that he/she was drunk since after they swerved away to avoid a wreck, the swerved more than they needed to, forcing me to hit my brakes once again and wait until the fool stopped swerving. Also, it was about this time that I began a barrage of swear words and body gestures towards this person for about the next mile on the highway.

I finally got home, and went inside and told my parents about it. But then I realized that I forgot to check my car for damage, so I went outside to see if anything happened, not expecting to see anything. However, to my dismay and p***ed off surprise, I discovered that the snow pile that I thought I had missed, had actually done damage to my car...split bumper almost up to the top, split splash guard underneath, and a missing black plastic cover for that little hole (I don't know what it's called). So the moral of the story, DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE and BE CAREFUL OF OTHERS WHO MAY BE DRINKING AND DRIVING!!!!

I will post some pictures later on.

Stay the F@!k Away from anyone you think is drunk. Suck that about the damage to your car, glad your not dead! Never try to pass them just give them enough room so they don't kill you, oh and call the cops with a licence number.

Yep...call the cops immediately and leave youself a safe distance. only pass if you can get real far away (at least 2 lanes) and drop to 3rd and pass FAST.

Sorry about your car. Did you get his plates? Since there is damage to your car, he caused an accident b/c he was drunk, so hopefully you do. Unfortunately, you have no proof though. That sucks. Sorry dude

Gosh that sucks man! Sometime it is better to just hit the guy and determine whose fault it was then try to avoid it and you are the only one that gets into an accident. Good luck!

Yeah no proof unless he has a history of DUI then maybe you'd have a shot.

I didn't get his plates, unfortunately...I didn't think about it at the time and I didn't think I had any damage...

really sorry to hear about that c-dog. i might actually wait till spring to fix her up, never know with this crazy winter we've had so far...if you can stand it. i might side with robin on the lip kit - actually, I totally do. you could fix that up so that it's not very noticeable, and just use that as your winter lip, and slap on the (new?) one for spring summer and fall.

you're a smart dood, so I'm saying the rest of this for those reading that have never gone through this...just like everyone, I'd say call the cops. I keep a decent digital in the car, and just snap pics rather than trying to remember plates. Calling the cops will save lives. Even if the person you think is drunk is stone-cold sober, they could be having some kind of medical episode, such as a diabetic reatcion, heart attack or worse, and in that case, you'd be saving their life.

like sandbox, i never pass ppl i think are drunk - if they can do that much to a car without hitting it,, imagine what happens after you pass them and are sitting at a light.

Use it as your winter bumper, I love it. Now that's making good come from bad.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this a lot the last couple of days...if I take it to a body shop, then I'll have to pay for everything since we haven't told insurance (everything would sky rocket) and that's probably going to be quite a bit since body shops usually screw you on these kinds of things...but i've also thought about the body kit and I've been looking around at those lately, so I might just end up saving up and buying a new body kit...I'm going to have to wait until spring since the weather's too cold for paint to dry anyways, and like Tony said, you never know what's gonna happen!

curt, I bet we could take that bumper off, and fix it pretty well using a heat gun and some industrial strength adhesive. i bet if someone didnt' know it was there, they wouldn't notice it...

Frosty-Thanks buddy!

Hax-I know he does, lol

Tony-That would be a good idea, but how would we cover up the paint damage? And also, I was planning on getting a kit sometime in the future anyways, might as well start now instead of spending money on a front bumper and paint, and then later spending more money on a kit and paint. But since I'm not planning on doing anything with it until the spring, maybe we could try your idea as a temporary fix?
