ohms is the electrical measurement for resistance.

tell me what your getting (rockford i understand, but what model subwoofer, how many, and what amplifier?)

your going to want ~1200 watts of continuous power @ a 2 ohm load.

that will give you more than 1200, (1500 to be exact) but with those top of line rockford subs, they'll take it with no worries

The lower the resistance (ohms) on a speaker, the more power (watts) the amp can push through. However, not all amps can handle the extra power a lack of resistance will provide and will fry. That's why I love Rockford, they are built to handle anything.

If you have two 4ohm subs, wired parallel = 2 ohms each.

If you have two 2ohm subs, wired parrallel = 1 ohm each and rediculous power going through.

It gets more complicated when you add more subs, but you can see the relation. Phoenix Gold use to have something like a 50 watt rated amp that could handle about a .25 ohm/speaker and push about 400 watts through each one. I'm sure you could have cooked a very nice steak on the heat sinks as well ;-)
