Pembroke Pines Street Machines Car Show revs up the wow factor
By Sofia Santana | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
September 21, 2008
PEMBROKE PINES - Loren Gomez, 23, of Hialeah, aimed to impress fellow car enthusiasts by showing off his custom sound system at street car shows like the one Saturday evening outside the Pines Recreation Center.
The Pembroke Pines Street Machines Car Show drew scores of enthusiasts and participants who brought more than 50 souped-up vehicles to the parking lot at 7400 Pines Blvd.
Gomez introduced them all to his bass machine, cranking it up enough at one point that the pounding vibration rattled the entire lot.
"We just do it for fun," he said, looking over his white Scion TC fitted with canary-yellow rims. "It's nice to get attention for it."
Other participants showed off powerful engines, custom interiors and elaborate paint designs — including one car that featured blue and black suede upholstery and another emblazoned with beloved arcade icon Pac-man.
Toyota of Hollywood/Hollywood Scion sponsored the event.
