Im not one to just jump on a new car that hasnt been proven reliable and been out for atleast a year, but im all over the FR-S. I dont think I can wait so as long as the price stays in the realm of what iv been told im going after it asap.
So i pose this question for all, put yourself in my shoes for a moment and ask yourself would you trade in your fully built, turbocharged, 300-400hp, great running Tc for the FR-S?
or would you try to keep the Tc and finance the FR-S for its full price?
or sell off all the goodies from the Tc to put towards a downpayment?
Im not going to lie im nervous about getting rid of the Tc cause its payed off and if anything happens I still have the Tc to drive. Also the past 3 years have been the rockiest years iv been through financially, 3 layoffs in a row will do that to ya.
This isnt a question of should I get it but how do I go about getting it.

If I were you especially because of the financial situation you've been through i would wait at least a year before making any decisions so that money can be saved and used cars can appear as well as the reliability of the car can be monitored. that way you can spend a year selling the stuff off your tc to save up for the frs. just my opinion though
I was in the same boat but my tc is paid off and i love the thing so i decided to finance the fr-s once i wont mod it until its paid off most ill drop it but im try and wait until summer see how everyone likes theirs first

Is your tC paid off? Personally, my tC is paid off and the question I would ask myself is whether or not getting the FR-S is a need or a want. I would also look at my financial situation in respect to the current economy. I'd rather have a paid off car and be saving up what I'm not spending on a car payment. If you truely want an FRS, pay off your current bills, analyze your current financial situation, then determine whether or not you want to do.
^This. I'm tired of having a car payment but am planning to stick this out with my current tC. I most def would wait until the second year of production to get into a new vehicle. Never know what changes will be done, and if they're for the better you'll kick yourself for jumping on the bandwagon to be first to have one.
Tough decision. I'm in a similar situation too... I think you learned a lot from the tc and that was a stepping stone for you to achieve FR-S world domination in the near future.
i say screw the FR-S. 200 bhp for all the hype that this car was making is a joke. granted i wanted this car when i heard about it too but when the numbers came out for it forget about it. you already have all the time and money into the tc why get rid of it. i plan on keeping my tc and hoping the FR-S doesnt sell very well to the point that toyota needs to go back to the drawing board and get us something with some decent power. if this car is anywhere near $30,000 then it is a joke. get a nissan z and destroy the FR-S all day long!

i'd say it depends on pricing. it is extreamly unlikley that a scion will have a 30K price. so if this car comes out at say 23-24K like most are predicting then with a decent down payment you could get this car for high 200 to low 300 a month. which is doable in most financial situations. the only thing to worry about is taxes and title every month.

btw I applied for another car loan just to see where I stand as far as credit goes and its not looking that great. Because of the layoffs iv gone through and not having my current job for very long my credit took a hefty hit. Im somplace in the mid to upper 500's (thanks alot economy)
This is what really gets me about the fr-s is imho it would be better to rip out that engine and drop in a 2az from the get go cause most likely ill want to ramp up power via turbo. The stock fr-s engine could take a little boost but the compression is sooo damn high
Another option is to build the boxer for boost though no options on parts as of yet. Im sure though it shares the same pistons as some of the other subbies.
so in short looks like this will be a big no. Who knows things may change.
your car is paid of with a nice mod. stick on that. don't get blind on FRS we all know its a nice car. but financially? do you rather save up money and if something bad time came. you are ready to fixed the problems or you wanna get the FRS then something bad happen? question is do we have enough to handle both? problem? and payment for FRS?
