Looking at the numbers Motortrend provided...not sure why maybe due to aerodynamics but it seems like the FR-S is quicker off the line, stops better, handles better according to Figure 8 and lateral acceleration but the BRZ has better top end results!
Or maybe its just tested on a different day where the climate, wind etc played a factor cause the numbers aren't that far off either way.

I really don't see how they could really be THAT different. Weight might have a factor, because as I understand it, the BRZ is slightly more upgraded which might mean more weight? Either way, I'm sure the average driver wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the two.

It's not due to aerodynamics. Aside from the front bumper, they have the same COD. What is different and why the FR-S is a quicker is due to suspension. FR-S suspension is setup to have a softer spring and stiffer dampner. The BRZ is the opposite. Thus the BRZ understeers more going into turns and you have to either slow down more before entering the turn, or lift off the throttle to get the nose to point in. FR-S, that is not necessary. The nose will point in and it's able to be driven with the throttle rather than brake (oversteers more).

Those straight line numbers can be made up with different shifting points, so those are arbitrary.

Do the BRZ and FR-S have different exhausts systems maybe?

Are those differences even statistically significant?

The 2 cars have the exact straight line performance, I put nothing into a .1 second difference. So no, not statistically significant.

However, the suspensions are different. I like the setup of the FR-S to the BRZ.

Yep, that .1 can be made up and lost at any point. It's at the track though that the FR-S is showing full 1sec + lap times faster than BRZ. BRZ understeer is the deciding issue.
However, this all would be changed the moment someone drops some springs or coilovers on either of them. I imagine though the FR-S would still best it around the track.

And generally suspension is the best bang for your buck on any car that is raced. Is there any way to get technical specs on the difference in springs and dampers used between the two?

Have not seen a technical spec sheet on the dampner and spring rates used by both. Only what was said by the Subaru/Toyota engineers.
