Toyota's latest co-project with BMW, supposedly called the 69DZ, may be a smaller, lighter, and less powerful version of the GT86 platform.

Manufacturers are being forced to produce 50+ mpg cars. Lighter (without loosing safety) can only go so far, so yeah, less displacement. Power adders can always be installed if the power doesn't work for you.
