Default so my windshield just cracked...

rock chip as the edge created a hairline crack that goes across half of the windshield. it's safe to assume that it's not under warranty, even though i've only had this car less than THREE FRIGGIN MONTHS!!! any ideas how much a replacement front windshield goes for these days?

Insurance. Otherwise if you don't want to take out a claim, it's usually around $300 to do it cash. That's with the new windshield, removal of the old one and installation of the new one. We have a corporate account with Safelite for our fleet and they charge us about $225 for everything and that's in a brand new Ford Ranger. So I'm assuming around $300 for a joe shmo.

i tried an estimate from the safelight website and it said i needed a replacement at $850. i'll call my insurance co, and if i have to out of pocket anything at all i'll just go to a mom and pop shop like i did for my old xa. new replacement for about $120 installed.

and if i had to measure, it's about 3 dollar bills in length, the hairline crack.

I had a feeling the windshield for the iQ would be much more than a Ford Ranger. It's a big windshield and a new model.

I'll be interested to see how much your insurance company is willing to cover.

Wow. That is insane. I would never guess that. I have had windshields replaced before and never costed outta pocket more than $300. The Ranger shield is beefy, not sure how big compared to the iQ but it's big. I don't know man that sucks. Looks like you'll have to take a claim out, which sucks. Now-a-days insurance covers they whole thing, it's just dependent on your deductible. You know, you could always get some piano wire and saw that thing out yourself with a friend and some vice grips, and then go buy a windshield and figure out how to seal it up right yourself. Haha. That would be an awesome DIY. I remove windshields all the time, but then I always rivit in plexiglass. I build race cars. It's not too bad.

Definitely call your insurance first. Some states actually have a law that mandates that insurance companies pay for at least one free windshield a year. Here in Florida we have that.....Ive used it twice in the past 10 years, they pay for someone to come out and pay for it free of charge

Yea, my wife got a crack in hers within 2 months of owning it, most of the quotes were crazy, but we changed our insurance, so we'll have to pay a $100 deductible for it now, but have to find someone that can get ahold of one, a little difficult it seems.

Toyota quoted over $875, crazy.
