iQ Priced at $15,995?
From Autoblog this morning.
http://green.autoblog.com/2011/07/13...d-from-15-995/
Seriously Scion, what are you thinking? The Fit starts at $15,100, the Yaris at $13,155 (w/ 2012 refresh on the way), the Fiat 500 at $15,500, the Mazda2 at $14,180, the Fiesta hatch at $15,795, even an actual Smart is lower at $12,490.
The design looks sharp, and with the right mods should be a lot of fun, but as a non-brand loyal consumer I just can't see this as a good value vs. other vehicles in the segment.

So, apparently this link has disappeared from Autoblog. Not sure if it got lost in the format roll-over that came out today or if it was pulled for another reason. Guess I'll need to wait on something more official for pricing. The Autoblog link came from a journalist who was at the media introduction for the iQ.
Backup link from Motortrend is here:

For what you get w/ the iQ, its well worth the price and you really dont need the other options that . You get a Toyota Brand vehicle w/ all the bells and whistles and not to mention a well build vehicle and trusted. Sure you can get a Smart or Fiesta, but you get a Mercedes maintenance car and the other one is a Ford.
I miss the old Toyota

I swear, Scion is trying to put itself out of business. Ever since the Gen2 cars things have gone down, down, down.
$16K is about $2K too much. This is with hub caps! They should have left out the Blue Tooth and deluxe stereo and started at $13,995. I don't think Americans are going to embrace a "hi-tech" car that small no matter how much it costs.
I was disappointed when they announced a manual transmission wouldn't be available here. Now, this ballooned price for hub caps, thin cloth seats, and mileage my Yaris beats.
I think Scion just wasted our time.

Wait now, really? Now how did they come to the decision of only offering auto transmission only stateside? If this $15,995 price tag is indication of anything the FT-86 if it ever arrives I'm sure is going to be out of reach or up there for being a youth market brand.

The article was likely pulled as the pricing announcement that soon was for dealers only. The public price announcement was scheduled for this past Wednesday.
The iQ will have a CVT transmission (auto only). For the price, it actually isn't that bad. It is a bit touchy that's it's just a hair below the xD in price, but both are built for different purposes. Similar to the "why xD when you can xB" debates.
iQ ($15,995. plus.. around $150? for carpet mats) versus xD Auto ($16,785. w/ Carpet Mat Set)
Those looking strictly for a commuter will turn to the iQ as 3+1 seating makes sense and the higher MPG (rated 37 MPG, so could be better or worse, I got 37 MPG on my manual xD). It's a car that makes sense if you have another car for weekends.
Those looking for an economical everyday car will turn to the xD. Still great MPG and more versatility than the iQ makes it a clear winner.
The same argument was presented for xD versus xB ($1,100. more for xB, why even look at the xD?). Space and Power versus Compact-size and MPG. Again, neither is 'better' than the other overall. They simply fit different buyer needs.

IDK
They were selling Yaris' for 10,500- ish when they first came out and they couldn't keep them on the lots. I remember when the two new Toyota-Carmax's was selling their first three door hatch Yaris for 10 k even! I still kick myself in the rear for not buying one of those than my xA:what huge 5k difference!
Has Toyota learned from that???? They are really hoping the economy goes back to normal by then; huh????
Looks like I may look into 2012 VW Beetle more seriously if VW sells them for 18k-ish!

Price Vs Demand.... once they get the demand down... price is going to have to come down or they will see the sales go down...simple math..specially with the economy how it is and the unemployment rate going up....
thanks whats up...
