guys pricing will be allot less......i just had a board meeting with the guys from smart today and our UAG, United Auto Group will hold the distributorship for this brand in the United States.

 

uhhh I hate to be the one to spill the beans but have you guys seen I honda insight? 70hp 60's mpg honda is killing it this year if they already havn't. smart won't work in the US

 

we'll see.....they said the same thing about scion when we started now we are doing 200 plus scions sold per month

 

Watch this video at 4:20 seconds - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju6t-...elated&search= - and look at how the SEATS you would be sitting in, in the OTHER car hit the WINDSHIELD - the chassis flex on the smart isn't that bad in collision, it looks like the seats only flex under their own weight/support.

I dunno about you, but I value my face.... The smart car is a good idea, but it has everything completely backwards. High MPG and small cars are supposed to be affordable. "green" doesn't always have to cost Green. It looks like a well engineered machine, but I see it as a rich man's toy, or a die-hard commuter's car for someone for some reason or another can do nothing but live in a wall to wall city.

I'll take my faster, more agile, less expensive, safer, more comfortable and roomier TC and park 10 blocks away instead.

I like how everyone went out and bought Huge SUVs and now that gas prices went so high, everyones trading them in for these tiny hydrid cars.

The photo shown in this thread - the second boxy one - is that the proposed redesign for the American market? Way too bad if it is, because it is totally non-cute. The egg shape of the current Smart car is part of the apeal.

I checked one of these out recently while in England, and they are pretty nice. Though I understand only the gasoline version will be initally introduced to the US, so gas mileage will be about 40 overall, so not better than say a Yaris. Again too bad, as the diesel model gets like 60 mpg.

 

great commuter car plus you can perpendicular park on the city street. there is no current vehicle in the u.s. lineup that is a direct competition to it. mpg=60! better than a hybrid and fun to look at too.

What car wouldn't mess you up at 70mph into a cement wall?? The thing held up pretty damn well, and they have pretty decent safety ratings. You'd have to see how the thing fairs at different speeds before you really tell how it performs in an accident.

The Smart in the vid rolling around after the accident doesn't look safe. By then an 18-wheeler would hit it like a soccer ball.

Smart could make an affortable supermini while maintaining modern comforts. For example the old Toyota 1MZFE engine cost more to manufacture than the more powerful and efficient 2GRFE. BTW, the Euro is worth more than the US Dollar. This may keep prices high unless they want to take a hit. Give us the Toyota Aygo.

For those who own, or have test driven the ForTwo, is there any truth in Consumer Reports' complaints regarding the transmission?
