It will more than likely look more like a wagon than the current Highlander would be my formerly educated guess. A little lower, maybe a bit longer, and a bit wider, too. More power, too.

I'm imagining something like this:
It will definitely have at least the 3.5 Dual VVT-i 269 hp available, but since that motor is in the cheaper Rav as well, they really should do something to juice it up some, or offer a larger engine that can give it around 300hp. But I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

Well, if they want to compete with the Pilot, they need to increase the size of the Highlander, tremendously. Like, almost the size of the current Sequoia. Otherwise, they need to go the direction of the FT-SX above. Only time will tell which way they picked.

^^^ My gut tells me they will shoot for something more CUV than SUV since that segment is booming right now. Though much larger and truck-ish, I think the 4Runner is all the competition that Toyota will need with the Pilot, which seems to be moving quite slow right now.

Same here. Tho, it would be odd to take a popular SUV with a known name, and then completely redesign it's very nature. But at the same time, they don't really have a need for something inbetween the Rav and Sequoia unless it is a CUV. As you say, it's what the market is dictating.

I'll tell you one thing, thank God they're bringing out a new design. I was getting tired of the current one. Too boring looking.
My question is this....If the Rav4 got bigger and the Highlander might, what's going to happen to the 4Runner and Sequia. I think they should drop the Sequoia, considering it too out-dated and doesn't sell well.

I don't know what is going to happen to the 4Runner, but I do recall reading an article on AutoWeek.com a few months back stating that Toyota is scared they may have made the new Sequoia too big, if that gives you any indication of the direction the next Sequoia is going in.

The 4runner and Sequoia are body on truck frame, rear wheel drive SUV's with go anywhere 4WD available for obscene offroad conditions and the added ability to tow 5k and with the upcomming 08 Seq, 10k pounds. It's a completely different class of vehicle and there is literaly no cross shopping.
The 4runner needs a lot more head room, but it will also have to grow at least a little bit more in all directions, the market is pushing that. They won't make it too big (I hope), because that's one of the reasons it sells; it has the capability to go anywhere in style, but it's still really easy to park.
As long as they don't make the Sequoia the size of an Excurssion, it'll be fine. I hope they do make an option like on the Tahoe/Yukon to have an extended length.

lets put it all in perspective:
Rav4 -- compete with the likes of CR-V and Tuscon....a "civilized" compact SUV
FJ - Off-road beast designed to eat the Wrangler for breakfast.
Highlander -- "civilized" midsize to compete with Murano and SantaFe
Sequoia - full size to take on the likes of Tahoe / Suburban
Whats missing is a CUV like the Mazda 7 or Ford Edge... but then again a CUV is just a more "carlike civilized midsize" ... so there is a good chance that the Highlander might just evolve into that..but I doubt it.
