[quote]Toyota Motor Corp.'s Scion brand was geared toward a Gen Y buyer and it has been successful in attracting that age group. But the median age of a Scion tC buyer is 49, according to Tustin, Calif.-based AutoPacific.

The boxy Scion xB, promoted as a car for urban trendsetters, has found success with people in their 50s and 60s who like the car's low floor height because it's easy to step into.

Generation X (the roughly 50 million people born between 1965 and 1981) isn't getting the same attention, basically because their numbers are smaller than the generations before and after it.
I'm getting tired of being lumped in with Y or Boomers...

That said, the median age of 49 for tC buyers is hard to believe unless the vast majority sold are being bought by parents for their children. As far as tC *drivers* goes, I'm the oldest one I've ever met in person. I know one couple older than me that almost bought one for themselves but they backed out.

When I bought my tC, the saleaman told a father came in a week before and originally bought a tC for his son but ended up keeping it himself after driving home... The son ended up with a xB. My Dad (56) is planning on buying a xB this summer.

Default Let them have fun

Who cares what age group buys a Scion. We should be congratulating anyone who supports Scion. Yes I've seen many 60 to 80 year olds push XBs, but I still say let them have fun.

Here in Tucson there are quite a few...elderly people. I don't care what your age is when you purchase a Scion (and there are A LOT of parents who buy them for their kids) but I will say that young people are a lot of fun to deal with, mostly because I can relate to them more.

Im not suprised of the high age range. Although I would never buy a xA or xB when I went car looking my dad came with me and he loved them for the utility they provide. You can fit a lot of things in them even though its a small car. I guess that many of the young people (teens) in here have parents that bought their cars or at least helped. When I was that age I still paid for the car but they were in my dads name.

The reason they want young people to buy the car is so that we move up to more expensive Toyotas when we need something bigger and more pratical for our familys. Then to a Lexus once we are more secure in life and have some extra money to blow on something nice.

Hey,
We ol' GEYSERS need a little fun in our lives too! I'll leave those Lexus and Camerys
to the young squirts.

Scions are good but not great(dont flame me now). Sure, its bang for you buck and easy on your wallet. But if you can afford a Lexus, the decision would be a no brainer.

Default i wave at xB owners all of the time regradless of their age

i have always been cheap. well, i came from broke. made what i have. it has to be value. yes with pins in my knee and hip at 57 and being 6'3", the xB is the ticket. in the small town i am in the xB stands out. i can't afford a lot so i bought racing disc and cover my stock wheels. they are different. no one has them. no brake dust and easy to clean. i debadged the rear and painted half of the front badge backrgound white so it looks a bit like yin-yang. i have started running acetone. the auto shop teacher has a jeep. his mpg went from 17 to 24. i am going to test soon.

muchpeace,
jerry

Default Just My 2 Cents

I am 50 years old and ordered my new TC just as I wanted it 2 tone leather, 18 inch wheels, ground effects, raised lip spoiler and just added CAI & Custom dash.
I payed cash could have bought any car I wanted, Have herd people talk about the 350 Z but I ask the question has anyone driven one. I was a Drag racer untill three years ago and have been 6.36 187mph, Not bragging did it for 25 years just added that in there to prove that when I say the TC is fun to drive Customizable with a warranty! Not to many manufactures can say that and I like to be different.
30.000 Can give you a very powerfull TC (warranty would be gone of course)
But at that price there wouldnt be any reliable car that could run with it.
Just because we get older dosent meen we quit having fun.

I'm a little peeved. I hit the invite the other day to take a survey. When I punched in my age I got the response of "Thanks but no thanks". I don't think I am their target market!! To that I say: Bite my cathodes!
