Default Scion to sell rebadged Tribeca?

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/02/e...adged-tribeca/

We like a good auto-related rumor as much as the next obsessive pistonhead, but when Automotive News starts citing Japan's New Model Magazine X, we can't help but be a little humored.

The mag across the Pacific supposedly has a spy shot of a "Tribeca-like" vehicle undergoing testing, and beneath the camo is a badge that purportedly looks a lot like a Scion emblem. The idea of an "xTribeca" (their term, not ours) seems too far out to be plausible, but with Toyota's 8.6-percent stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company of Subaru, it's isn't entirely out of the question. The question itself though, is "why?"

Even though the Scion brand is going strong, would a larger SUV based off the Tribeca be a plausible candidate for the Scion lineup? And even if it was, could it be restyled to fit the brand's youthful image? All these questions and more are making the rounds between our ears, with nothing particularly positive coming out of it.

They may be testing just the platform or engine for the fourth model. After all, if they go for the small truck market, Subaru built the Baja. Even though I'm sure that Scion wouldn't go for a Baja-type rebadge, we all know that Subie has the technology to do so. That mini-truck sure would be cool with the WRX's turboed H-4

I just hope it isn't the Tribeca, beacuse I honestly don't see how a SUV fits into Scion's image. Scion is about small, efficient vehicles that maybe aren't at the pinnacle of fuel savings, but aren't huge and wasteful either... which is what the SUV is.

i had heard something about a small SUV (roughly the size of the older Rav4's before the redesign). i would like to see something in the SUV/CUV market from Scion.

i would like to see a small SUV in scion's lineup. not all SUV's have to be non-fuel-efficient. Look at the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4. I think it would be a big hit. Young people like SUV's, i know i do. im not saying all im just saying that a good percentage do. at least thats my expierence

Nah, that's not a SUV... those are CUVs.

You know, not good at on-roading like a car, but can't do even a little off-roading like SUVs. Which begs the question - what exactly is the point of a CUV?

no its not. the xB2 does not have all wheel drive. it doesn't have high ground clearance. i hate to admit it but the xB2 isn't even a truck (although i call it a truck and correct people when they don't). its considered a sport wagon and sometimes dubbed "urban utility vehicle".

This sounds great to me. I kinda like the tribeca. But what would be really great would be cabro on affordable 4wd model or a system on the xD, xB and/or tC.

t-ak-box, I think affordable would go out the window the second they offer something like a Tribeca with AWD. And Happy Birthday!

it was probably a joke. i remember when toyota was developing the next generation (current generation) camry, there were spy shots of it in camo with a giant fake honda "H" on the grill. those designers or testers or whatever just think they are being funny.

however...i would totally be down for an all-wheel drive scion with good motor and manual tranny. i know we all would be!
