Subaru RWD Coupe Worldwide, Toyota RWD Coupe Japan Only
I would buy it even with the 2.0L. I do wish it would come with a turbo though.
My dad has a Subaru Legacy, and let me tell you guys something, that thing is FUN to drive. It also would be weird to see a 2WD Subaru.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and say I don't think this article is very legit. The fact that they're claiming 220hp from an n/a 2.0L boxer when that's almost exactly what the EJ20 turbos got in the first WRX's that hopped over here made seems highly dubious to me. And before you blast me yes I know Honda got 240hp out of an n/a 2.0. I also know that Subaru is not Honda, and they're using a boxer and not in inline.
They only get around 170hp from the 2.5 n/a, I imagine it'd be around 145-150 from that engine in a 2.0 configuration. If this car is real and a 2.0 making 220hp it's a turbo-charged engine. Especially considering if this car is going to have that weight, be rwd, and start at just under 20k it's going to compete DIRECTLY with the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and that car is a 2.0L turbo that makes around 220hp.
I'm just saying I don't see the boxer engine getting 220hp n/a, even if they went direct injection ignition, so it's gotta be turbo. Based on that and the fact that Toyota NEEDS some kind of coupe now that the Solara is being replaced by that Wagon/SUV/Ford Freestyle looking thing I'd say it's a pretty safe bet this thing is going to be offered by a Toyota brand.
Also, a possible reason it may not be marketed as a Toyota may be because they plan on offering all of their cars with a hybrid option in the near future and this may not seem like a likely candidate for that treatment. Leaves the possibility for a new Scion or perhaps a Lexus... like the Lexus RS200 or something. Gotta nice ring to it.

IMO I think rebadgeing it to a Toyota would just be weird, considering most of the car is a Subaru, and will be sold as a Subaru. xB to bB or xA to IST, thats different, those cars are totally Toyotas, minus some badging. The whole chassis and drivetrain are from Subaru, just my $.02.

Why the hell are they benchmarking the integra type r? That car became obsolete in every department besides looks when the civic si came out...if they are gonna benchmark a weak butt 2 liter it should be the civic instead.
What i also dont understand is how Subaru is going to have RWD in their lineup (all AWD) and if it is to be a subaru why the hell it wouldnt have the 2.5l in it to add to the possibility of turboing or a turbo model later...the 2.5 has more potential than the 2.0 but im sure everyone knows that.
There would be no question about buyin it in my mind if it was a subaru 2.5 turbo...hell if it came stock with the WRX or STI motor i would jump on that...the only thing that held me back from buying subaru was the lack of a coupe body.
Done ranting, thanks for listening...and thank you toyota for f***in up AGAIN!

But garage does have a point on this being from autoblog and not from toyota. But seriosly 220 is very attainable from a 2.0ltr N/A.
While it is a bit of a let-down if this is true that it wotn eb a toyota dont bash them they helped design this but if they dont bring back something like the supra by the time this comes out by all means bash away. LOL
toyota has a very sensitive image they're trying to uphold. very specific sales goals to specific demographics. they are hardly f*ing up. they're doing exactly what they are setting out to do. there is nothing a manufacturer does by accident when dealing in such high numbers of cars and money.
Most of the noobs do not know or remember, but they are looking to build an ae86 replacement basically and went to the club 4ag forums for input. They all wanted a high revving RWD car that was lightweight, and by todays standards, 2800lbs is not heavy at all for a RWD car. I am very impressed with the design & most likley they will have an AWD turbo version for people with much much deeper pockets
If the car even resembles what is on paper, I am game.

^ you are probably right on that. But this thign does look sweet and even if it came with the 170 or watever hp that toyota said at the press release i would still be down for this if it looks like the pic and stays rwd and around the 2800lbs. Cause honestly i would just want a 300whp-ish rwd car to go drifting in or have soem fun in the snow. LOL So slap on a turbo and there ya go.

And as for rwd sports coupes, I'll patiently wait for the Coupe 60;
